Author Monthly Post – Anne Barwell – One Back, Several Forward

Readers often ask me if I take a break between books. I wish!

Double Exposure is out in the world, but I’m already thinking ahead to my next book. And the one after that.

My problem isn’t figuring out what to write, it’s finding the time to write it. I usually have several books on the go, with plotting a few ahead, and a WIP I’m working on while my next release is with my lovely beta readers, editor, and proofers.

Having a long preorder this time round so I could get my promo ducks in a row meant that I’ve had time to spend writing Postscript, which hopefully I’ll have out by the end of the year. I’m almost finished the first draft and it’s wonderful to write new words again.

Postscript was supposed to be a novella as a lot of what I have lined up already have first drafts written or are a backlist book I’m treating as a first draft so I can expand, edit, and improve on the original version.

However, my characters had other ideas… I should have known that making the story a dual timeline was asking for trouble, but as it’s the set up for the series it needs a bit more worldbuilding too. Hopefully the rest of the series will be novellas so I can write new words in amongst all the editing and polishing.

*sigh*

Once my magical bookshop story is with beta readers, I’ll be heading back into dragon territory. My first dragon book has a new title, and will have expanded content so it meshes better with the almost written book 2…

I also have the first draft of Rosebound written, which is book 1 of Kiwi Psi,so that’s my next release after Postscript. One of the MCs, Liam, had a cameo in Double Exposure and his English Lit professor is someone familiar to readers of that book too.

After that I’m planning to release my dragons on the world with a completed 3 book series.

Wish me luck.

Meantime I’d love to see some of you in my readers group and/or signing up for my newsletter. Elizabeth Noble and I also have a shared Facebook group for our shared world, The Sleepless City.
