An ex-Army prince must protect the man he loves from his treasonous family
Blurb
Life couldn’t get any more twisted and convoluted if it tried. Christian hates his parents as much as they hate him, but he never expected them to throw him in a cell when he blurted out he was bisexual. Their public image is important to them because it hides the transgressions they’ve subjected many people to over the years. People Christian mourn every day because he couldn’t save them. Reading is an escape, and one place gives him the solitude he needs to shore his defences – and the view isn’t too bad either.
Oscar is living his dream. The owner of a beautiful cafe slash bookshop slash library, he is never happier than when he is working, which is all the time. When Prince Christian becomes a regular, Oscar tries to stop his attraction to him, but the man is like a god. A haunted god, but nonetheless. His scrutiny of the man means he notices when Christian nears breaking point, but he has no idea what to do about it. Christian offers to find him a Daddy, but Oscar hesitates. Does Christian really want to help or is he feeling sorry for him?
When their attraction persuades Christian to take the role of Oscar’s Daddy for himself, can he keep Oscar safe when he goes up against the people who wish to harm those they love?
This is an MM book containing BDSM scenes and D/s dynamics in all forms. It also has lots of loving, friendships, family drama and, of course, a HEA.
“How Douglas, George and Henry could think it was okay to touch another man that way was beyond me.”
Miranda patted John on the shoulder. “It won’t be for long, sweetheart. Remind yourself of the future, and it will help you see past the atrocities happening now.”
John smiled at her. “Thank you, dear. You’re right. It makes me sick to my stomach to think of them.”
“They’re in love.”
As soon as the words left his mouth, he knew he’d been wrong in saying them. His father’s expression soured, his eyes narrowing. “Love? Abominations like them cannot feel love. They’re twisted inside, feeling things that aren’t possible.” John stood, rounding the desk, stepping closer to Christian. “Are you on their side?”
“No, sir. I was just trying to explain—”
“You don’t need to explain anything. I don’t want to know what you think of them. If it wasn’t necessary to help the cause, I wouldn’t have you anywhere near them. Every time you get close, I worry they will turn you. That their sickness will rub off on you. The idea that you could become one of them wears on my mind. Douglas, George and Henry have a lot to answer for, but I blame their parents. If they took a firmer hand in their upbringing, this wouldn’t have happened.”
Christian kept his mouth closed, staring at the wall in front of him. He was used to these rants.
“Look how our children turned out, Miranda. And Charlotte’s children. With a firm hand, they can keep themselves on the right path. We will not allow those tainted ones to fester in the family for long.”
Christian felt himself cracking. “What about at the club?” he asked. When his father glared at him, he continued, feeling braver than he should. “Men are allowed to play with men there. Why is that any different?”
John rounded on him, backhanding him hard enough to knock him from his position. Christian caught himself on the wall. He hadn’t been expecting the hit and hadn’t kept himself braced, hence why he fell. He wiped at his mouth, his fingers coming away red. He tongued the cut in his mouth, tasting the metallic liquid and stood tall once more.
“Do you dare question me?” John shouted, standing in front of him.
Christian swallowed, knowing what he did next could ruin everything he was working towards. “I don’t understand how you can allow one but not the other.”
John stepped closer still. “You don’t need to understand. You need to do as you’re told. The people in the club are inconsequential. The loyal members of this family don’t engage in those activities.”
Christian snorted. “When was the last time you visited the club?”
John stepped back, and Christian braced, knowing he was poking the bear, a phrase he found true to form when it came to his father. The punch, when it came, took the wind from him, and he braced his hands on his knees, trying not to throw up. Unfortunately, his father threw another punch, catching him on his left eye and taking him to the ground. Christian could fight back. He knew how, but what would that accomplish?
“I don’t need to visit the club. My children and Charlotte’s children are there enough to gather all the evidence we need to know who needs…training to become better members of the family.”
John kicked him in the stomach, a move Christian hadn’t been expecting. He breathed through his nose to stop the nausea. It surprised him John was taking this for himself. Usually, he called in a guard to do the beating for him. Christian must’ve pissed him off good.
“And Douglas, George and Henry will be the first to feel our wrath.”
At that moment, Christian broke. He climbed to his feet, stood tall and met his father’s gaze. There would be no going back from this, and he hoped Uncle Andrew would forgive him for ruining their plans.
“You’ll have to go through me first.”
John frowned at first, but Christian saw the moment he understood what he was saying. “They’ve got to you already. I thought you, of all people, would be able to withstand their influence.”
“It has nothing to do with them. My body, my life. I’m bisexual, Father.”
His heart thumped as happiness and fear ran equally through his veins. This was the first time he’d vocally acknowledged his sexual orientation. He had no idea what his father would do with this knowledge, but looking at the mottling of John’s face, it wouldn’t be good.
I am Elouise East but feel free to call me Elli. I write sweet and steamy connections in gay romance. I also touch on taboo stories under the name Elouise R East.
Books that tell the stories where friendship and family are the focal point – be it blood family or chosen – is very important to me. That’s why I include a variety of personalities, talents, ages, situations and abilities as I believe a story or a character needs. I want my characters to be real, to be relatable, to be free to have whatever views they tell me they have. And trust me, most of the time, I do not have any say in the matter!
My characters come to life on the page for me as well as my readers. Their stories unfold in front of me, and I have very little input into how they want to be shown. Just like real life, the lives of my characters change with every choice, every interaction and every conversation. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I write books that are emotionally realistic, even if liberties are taken with other aspects of my stories. I don’t know any other way to write. It comes from deep inside.
Who am I? A single parent to two children who make life worth living. An avid reader who still devours every book she can get her hands on. A student of learning about any subject that takes her fancy. An author of books she would read herself. And a romantic at heart who loves anything cheesy.
