Declan is trying hard not to be jealous of his bestie Justin, who has mated with a dragon and is learning to fly. Owen, who is Justin’s mate’s brother, and a dragon himself, keeps trying to tell Declan how special he is, but he doesn’t believe it. He’s just a guy, right? Not as good an athlete as Justin, not a smart as Owen, not as cool as anyone…
Owen knows Declan is his mate, but he doesn’t know how to make Declan understand how special he is. So he sets aside his own worry and confusion and starts to woo Declan into seeing his own magic. As he coaxes out Declan’s latent dragon side, Owen struggles with all the changes to their isolated world, and the new danger that brings. Can he keep Declan safe and loved as their family starts to grow even more?
REVIEW:
Note: This is the second book in this series and they are best read in order since there are major spoilers for book 1 and also the context of how Declan came to be in this position with the dragons.
Declan has been rescued along with his bestie Justin after a wolf attack and he wakes up finally in a world he never knew existed. He’s been cared for by Owen, the medic of the family of dragons that he was rescued by. He discovers that fae and werewolves and other things he’d only dreamed about are real. He’s super happy for his BFF Justin that he’s found a mate with the dragons and that the family is expanding, but he’s not convinced that he belongs.
Owen has known since Declan was rescued more dead than alive that he is his mate. But he had to keep Declan safe while he healed from the serious head and other injuries he sustained in the attack in their territory. Once Declan has recovered, he’s making some headway with him and Owen knows he feel the mate pull also, but he’s not going to push Justin for more until he’s ready. Justin cannot see that he is also a dragon and that he’s definitely the right one for Owen. The whole family is involved in trying to make Declan feel like part of them group and that he is indeed where he is supposed to be.
Finally after much thought and talking it out, Declan realizes he is meant to be with Owen. Once they finally are together, everything feels right. Declan is so happy in the underground pool with Owen and their bond just gets stronger and stronger. They are finally together as they should be. Declan also feels like he’s contributing to the family with his knowledge of electronics and networks and the internet and he’s so much happier.
Outside the dragon compound things are getting a little bit dicey with the neighboring wolves. But Zeke has decided that they should try to make peace – to keep both group safe and also to provide some partnership. Declan is instrumental to Zeke’s idea, but Owen is reluctant to have his mate anywhere near the wolves again. Declan wants to try though and things go better than expected. There are so many surprises in story for Declan and Owen and all the dragons and their neighbors as well 😀
I really enjoyed this second installment. Thankfully Declan’s reluctance to claim his true place wasn’t too long-lived and he and Owen moved into a partnership that works well. The rest of the dragons support both Owen and Declan through their courtship and they really help both to get more comfortable in their roles without the family. I really liked getting to know more about the world, the wolves, Ariana and the rest of the paranormal universe in this one. The author is slowly revealing more about the world these dragons inhabit as well as their magic and the differences amongst the dragons. There is especially a lot more to learn about the wolves and their relationship with the dragons and how they can maybe peacefully coexist and protect each other. I’m looking forward to the next book when we finally get to know more about Justin’s twin Brandon. It’s clear he is meant to be with these dragons as well 🙂 If you’re a fan of interesting shifters, mpreg stories, fated mates and a universe populated by fantastical creatures, this is a low angst and fun series that I think you’ll enjoy.
