“Mr. Torrente? You need to come down here.”
My receptionist isn’t one to make demands, so I hurry down the stairs to see what all the fuss is about. Little did I know, the moment I walk down those stairs, my life is going to change in ways I can’t begin to fathom.
The boy and girl seated in the lobby come as a surprise, but the man bursting through the front door moments later has me nearly swallowing my tongue. He’s beautiful, funny, and infuriating. He says he’s a dancer with a job lined up on a cruise ship, but he’s crazy if he thinks I’ll admit to being the father of these two adorable kids I’ve never seen before in my life. His name is Dexter Carrington.
What the hell is happening to my once serene life?

Dexter Carrington~
A call from my mother informs me that she has my niece and nephew for the summer because my sister, a mediocre hair stylist from Jersey City, has decided to take a job that requires her to travel.
The unexpected call a few weeks later telling me my mother passed away is devastating, and a social worker says my niece and nephew will have to go into foster care, which only compounds my problems. I’m able to work out a deal to take the kids until my sister is found or their father is identified. Should be easy since I have a photo of him, right?
The handsome man I meet claims to be a wedding photographer, but when I catch the flash of a gun holster while he’s kneeling down to talk to my niece and nephew—who he looks nothing like—I have the impression there’s a lot more to him than he’s letting on. He’s unlike any man I’ve ever met, and his name is Gabriele Torrente.
What the hell is happening to my once dull and peaceful life?
This book is approximately 103,000 words in length, and doesn’t end on a cliffhanger. It is the second book in the series entitled, “The Lonely Heroes Series.”
REVIEW:
I was itching to get my hands on this book and discover the “true” Gabby!
Gabriele “Gabe” Torrente (aka: Gabby to his Ranger Brothers) runs a highly successful business GEA-A (Golden Elite Associates – America) which was a protection service that has Italian ties but is on the up-and-up. When he is summoned by his receptionist he had no idea he would be accused of fathering a 7 year old boy and 4 year old little girl. But when their Uncle Dexter appears Gabe is mesmerized by the beautiful and graceful dancer. When Gabe agrees to help the uncle try to locate his missing sister and help figure out who the real father is he has no idea how their world is about to be turned upside-down.
I loved Gabe’s fierce natural protective nature. He is extremely loyal and protective of those he loves and doesn’t stand for fools or homophobic relatives. But what I truly loved was his transformation when true love entered the picture. He would do ANYTHING to protect and love Dex, Dylan and Searcy. They became his reason to breathe.
Dex took a bit more time to get into my heart. He seemed shallow and selfish at first but I discovered that I think he was just overwhelmed with his current situation. He became much stronger that I would have thought possible. And his niece and nephew were so precious. They had such a rough start at life and deserved all the look and attention shone to them.
It was great to catch a few glimpses of Hank and Reed. I loved those two men and it was obvious that the love and respect of those Ranger men for their fellow brothers was real. Your Ranger needs help and his comrades were there…no questions asked!
Word of caution, there are A LOT of side characters and they each have code names, nicknames and personal names. I had a bit of trouble keeping them straight as to who they were and what they did. This includes a huge, extended family of Gabe’s that have both Italian names and the American nickname’s they go by. I finally had to make a chart so I could attempt to figure out who they were when they popped up. This seems to be a trend with this author. A chart in her books would be extremely helpful for that like other author do.
I really enjoyed this book. I admit I had a hard time keeping character’s straight, which would pull me out of the scene, and there is a fair amount of violence, which is to be expected in a book about former Army Rangers turned protective details. I can’t wait for the Smokey’s story (and the rest of the guys) next.
