That moment when your spectacular one night stand turns out to be your sexy, older new boss. FML.
Brantley Phipps doesn’t want a boyfriend. In his line of work, relationships are impossible. All he wants is one night of fun before he starts his 10-week rotation as assistant hotel director on a cruise ship.
He scores the jackpot with a hot older guy who hits all his yes, please buttons and who wants the same thing as him. Their chemistry is explosive, hot damn. Talk about a night to remember. That should last him a while….
Until he discovers that his one-night stand is none other than the legendary Captain Silver Fox aka his new boss. Oops.
Still, it shouldn’t be an issue because Brantley doesn’t do coworkers and Fox is known for being strict as hell about not dating employees. That should make things easy, if not for that pesky attraction that keeps flaring up whenever they’re in the same room. Or on the same ship. What the hell do they have to do to get rid of that?
It’s gonna be a long three months….
Captain Silver Fox is a stand-alone MM romance with an age gap, yummy steamy scenes, a Caribbean setting on a cruise ship, and a one-night stand that turns into an embarrassing case of falling for the boss. This book was previously published as Shipping the Captain, but the content is unchanged.
REVIEW:
Fox is out at a club potentially for a one-night stand before he gets onboard his cruise ship for a 10 week rotation. Since there is no fraternizing with the staff or passengers and everyone essentially reports to him, that means he’s in for a dry spell for the duration. But there is an medical emergency at the club that he assists with and another patron helps as well. After the excitement, they hit it off and leave together. The other guy, Bentley, is quite a bit younger than Fox, but he’s intrigued and they seem to fit together really really well. Fox is feeling a bit bad that there can’t be any follow up since he’s off. But it seems like they are on the same page on that as well.
Brantley is out at a club also looking for a one off before he starts his new job. He’s excited because he’s moved up really quickly in his career and he’s starting a new position the next day. He’ll be out of pocket for some time, so he’s thrilled when he hooks up with the gorgeous older guy who says his name is Silver. They have a very hot and sexy night together which puts him in a great mood for his first day at the new job.
All is going well. Captain Fox DeVries loves his job. He comes from a nautical family in the Netherlands and he’s young to be captain of such a huge cruise ship. His prematurely gray hair and his Dutch name have led to the Fox moniker which in turn has resulted in Silver Fox 😉 Things are going great until he meets the new Assistant Hotel Director on this ship – who just happens to be his one-night stand, Bentley, aka Brantley Phipps. They play it cool that they are just meeting, but AWKWARD! They agree to keep things professional.
At their first port, both men end up going ashore and decide to spend some time together. They get along great and have no trouble keeping the conversation going. Their agreement is to be friends with flirting – no benefits 😀 Fox runs a tight ship and he’s not about to break his own rules – no matter how much he likes Brantley. That works for a while. But as they have more contact and run into each other more, things get a bit heated. Fox knows they should not take things further, but both of them are really struggling with staying away from each other. Neither has ever had a relationship where they felt so connected. They realize the stakes are high for both of their careers if they are discovered or they make a mistake.
While Fox and Brantley try to figure out how to manage things, there is an unexpected emergency. Fox’s second in command does them a solid when things are dicey. And Brantley has to decide if this is more than a fling and what his true feeling are for Fox. He is determined to see things through and figure out a way forward – if only Fox is on board with the idea 😉
This is a really lovely story. It’s not super long, but the length provides a really good insight into both main characters. On the surface, it seems like they have great chemistry, but maybe that’s all there is. But as the story goes along, they develop a real friendship. There is mutual respect for each other as people They also respect each other’s career choices and what to support each other in that area of life as well. Yes, the chemistry is there, but it’s balanced with their trust and honestly with each other as well. I liked finding out about Fox’s family history in shipping and how that really impacted his life and career choice. While Brantley is younger than Fox, he’s a very mature guy and he knows what will make him happy. The evolution of their relationship over the course of the story is fast but interesting and believable. Sometimes you really do just know 🙂
I also just really enjoyed this audiobook! These two narrators – Tim Paige and Liam DiCosimo are a great team. They have narrated another series that I’m particularly fond of and I always like their performances. The switching from one narrator to the other is seamless and only adds to the story. I look forward to many more good books from them 🙂 Recommended!
