How long have you been writing for, and what inspired you to start writing?
I have been writing for four years, I was working one Sunday after doing a soul reading, and a past life reading. I was sitting at the pc and a guide came in and introduced himself as Gabe, and said right now we will do this? I said that I couldn’t possibly I can barely write a sentence.
My dyslexia confuses even me sometimes, he said of course you can, that’s what editors are for. That was that. I said okay then start, we wrote 10k words that night. It took a year and a half to write that book.
Tell us about your new release. What inspired you to write it?
Lost & Found is the continuation of the Aztec story, this story came to me when I was writing alive and free, it was nano, and I was ultimately dared. So, I took up the challenge and that was that, When Azkin came in with his father I kept forgetting his name. When the character said its Thando and spelt like this. T.H.A.N.D.O and don’t you forget it, I laughed to myself told my daughter, she thought I had lost the plot, I thought I had lost the plot and that was that.. Its not very interesting.
How did you decide on the title?
Believe it or not I didn’t know zip about writing and wanted to call them Aztec 1-2-3 etc because they were just a continuation of a story, until I got to this book, then I knew how soul connected they are on another level, in this book Azkin thinks he has lost Zain, and Zain Azkin. It seemed only right to call it Lost & Found.
What are you working on at present? Would you like to share a snippet?
Yes, I am working on a couple of books, right now one is a collaboration for release in Sept, it is called When we came home.
Its ultimately about two soldiers one is an amputee, the other ptsd from a brain injury from a car bomb explosion. This also came out of the left field. The book is sixty or so years into the future, but 30 years since a solar flash wiped out most of the United Kingdom.
Snippet: When we came home.
“Don’t do this brother, don’t you dare leave me, Rafe. Don’t you dare fucking leave me.” Sam checked for blockages, as he tilted Rafe’s head back, then started to breathe life back into his friend.
The chest compressions continued, medics all around, Sam climbed over Rafe as they secured him to a bodyboard. Now kneeling astride his torso, the lift Sam didn’t remember. Blood dripped into his eyes, and down onto Rafe’s chest, his uniform cut open as medics had tried to get their monitors on him.
Blood pooled on the floor at the hospital, Sam was confused, where was he? “No, no, no,” Sam shouted over and over as the blast sounded in his mind, the warning too late.
A warm hand touched his arm, first one arm, then the other pulling his hands from his head.
“Commander Richards, Sam, Hey Sam?” the doctor holding his arms spoke softly to Sam.
“Give him the sedative Dr Matterson.” The nurse said.
“Hey Sam, Raphael is alive awake and asking for you.” The doctor said softly.
Sam never felt the needle, the last thing Sam remembered as his world went dark Raphael who— Sam thought blankly as his eyes closed.
What was the hardest part of writing your book?
I love the whole writing process; the editing stresses me.
Did you learn anything from writing your book? What was it?
Yes, I learnt that advice in all forms is good advice you will learn from everyone. I also learnt that often the editor is the best teacher for a writer, my editor is invaluable. I had such a hard time, with finding Angie, she now knows my writing style, she makes me think as I am writing, just because I know what is going on, doesn’t mean the reader does.
Do you have any advice for other writers?
Yes, ask an author for advice, the advice I still love is from Emma Marie Leya, she said the best marketing strategy is building a back list, and just keep writing. Write what you know and love.
Are there any genres you prefer to write and if so, why?
I am a medium, so I love to write spiritual, as strange as this is, when I was writing my very first book alive and free there was a strong LGBTQ component on the spiritual side of souls coming into this lifetime who are in the community, it really intrigued me. I have some more spirit books planned; I just need more hands.
Is there a book you wish you had written?
Yes, I would have loved to have wrote a book I can’t find and have hunted for years for it. It is about the spirit of the horse, only it’s a story about how they came to be, how their world is told from the horses perspective I always believed it was called Equus, only I found out it wasn’t when I was looking for it. I read it when I was around 11 years old.
Why M/M?
Oh, now there is a good question, I don’t know. Okay I sort of do, I think this will sound really strange and trust me I agree here. I am a medium and I have a guide called Rhaji, when I was writing Alive and free right at the back there is a past life regression reading, of myself and Rhaji on the battlefield as Roman soldiers. While I was writing that book, I was plagued with a seriously bad elbow, doc said it was tennis elbow and injected it, but nothing worked. I had it iced up and strapped, it was my right elbow.
Late one night I was waiting on what I cant remember when I had this regression done, I saw I was walking down a rough stable yard and asked a solider to tack up a horse throwing a saddle at him, an olden type said, very rough looking. When this guy came around the corner, he had black curly hair, more than this I can’t believe I am telling you this story. However, I recognised this man, but didn’t know him. Then we shift to me sitting behind a man dying on the battlefield, him with a spear to his chest. Me I was heartbroken he was dying I was an officer he wasn’t, but he was mine and I felt that. Then I looked at my body, I also had spears in me, one in the elbow on the right side, one in the chest and one in the back.
Then the whole scene shifted again, he was standing in front of me and said now you know, we have lived together in a lifetime before and you are my twin flame soul. So, write as I am the writer you are the medium, I will help now let’s get going. The following week Aztec was born. Aside of writing this in Alive and free I have never told anyone else this.
Do you have any genres you prefer reading, and if so, what are they?
I will read the odd MF Vampire book, I loved the program, by Charlene Hartnady, and her vampire books.
What book are you reading at the moment?
I am on a re-read I am back with the Avanti chronicles, and only because I am writing myself and can’t risk a crossover.
What other novels do you adore/ writers you follow?
I follow most of the MM authors, I love Annabella Stones books, her military romances are amazing.
Are any of your characters based on you or people you know?
No, although the dog in the book I am working on now, That’s the second book the After we came home, this one is called After I came home. The therapy dog is a greyhound/German shepherd cross, he is after my pal Les Brown his dog Angel
Do you have a favourite character and/or book you’ve written? Who, what and why?
I love Angel the shifter in the Aztec Series, I am midway his book in the new series the Aztec Warriors, he was raised by adopted parents in the human world, when his momma died, his father abused him. He runs away with his pal aged just 13 and becomes the strongest man because of it. He has a heart of gold and could blame his terrible past on his life and turned out bad because of it. But no, I love Angel so much my hurt bursts for him. His book is so angsty and full of love, but he is cheeky and fun. However, I have had to come away from it for a bit, there wasn’t a day I didn’t cry when I wrote his story.
Do characters and stories just pop into your head, or do you take your time thinking about and planning them?
They just pop in there, they come together as I am writing them. As a new author I have only been doing this a short time, I am learning how still.
Do you get emails asking why characters didn’t get together and whether you’re going to write more about them?
I do yes, I have a lot of clients as a medium, and one lady asked could she read Redemption the book cover was stunning, bless her she thought it was about angels. I explained in my fourth book Truth in the Alive and free series, that my writing shifts between gay romance and spiritual, I explained it to the best of my ability and had betas check it out. I have a collection of mediums as beta readers reading all my work. Converted them all.
Are you a panster or a plotter?
Panster, I did try plotting, it went right out the window in the first chapter.
Do you write often? Do you have a schedule?
I write in the evenings and do readings for my work in the day, but not every day. Depends on when I am teaching or not. Right now, I am not teaching. Not until August.
What are your writing and personal goals for 2017 and beyond?
My goals are for this year, 2020 is a personal year 7 this means it’s a slow year, my intention was to write Aztec warrior series, I had three planned there, I am almost through two of them., I am four chapters into a YA book, this series crept up on me When we came home, I thought it was a one book and that was it. I have a 20k freebie I will edit and get it onto my website for when the Warrior series starts. And I have a sci fi I have started but put to the side for now that book needs more eyes on it than I can spare right now. All these books I have planned to release in 2021. Until my editor messaged me and said Lost & Found is almost done, the next Aztecs book is called Freedom that is completed and with the editor. And book 6 is almost complete as well. All this will happen in 2021
Are you a cat person or a dog person? Tell us about your pets.
I am a dog person, but I have a cat.
I breed boxers when I can, and show them, my kennel took top boxer kennel last year, with two champions showing that I bred. I have Dante, that’s the champion. Ace came from Scotland just there in March a few days before lockdown. And Khaleesi I bred myself, she is Dante’s younger sister. Aria is my daughters boxer also Khaleesi’s litter sister. And finally, Riley, my daughters pug cross. Theodore was a rescue.
Are there big events in your life that affect your writing?
I lost one of my best friends to Cancer early this year a fellow boxer breeder and show person. She was only 39, she had a last litter of puppies only three, these were born just four weeks before she passed. And she contacted me gifting me a male, I called him Ace. He is only 5 months old, so he is my big distraction right now. Its relearning balance. Dog shows and litters though I haven’t had a litter of puppies in 2 years.
Are you obsessed with stationery? And if so, what, and why?
Nope, I prefer computer work I have arthritis and pens and I struggle. I do have a stack of notebooks for character bibles.
If you had access to a time machine just once, is there anything you’d go back and change? Either on a personal level or an historical event?
Yes, I wouldn’t have wrote Alive and Free Truth, that book is my personal truth, my life laid bare all the emotional abuse, childhood abuse, it almost finished me writing it. I did it because I was continuously being asked to write it. In the end I had to change family names rather than end up in court. I had to change dates etc It brought up a whole past that should have maybe stayed buried. Though there is always a reason, I have nothing to hide in any parts of my life its all in the open. It costed me the first three months of 2020 whilst I struggled with the loss of my friend and turmoil of ptsd.
If you could choose any superpower or magical ability, what would it be and why? What would you do with it?
I would want to manifest money and lost of it, so I could get cover models and covers for my books. I would love the power of attraction to work right, instead of being slow.
If you could go anywhere in the world, all expenses paid, where would you go, who would you take with you, if anyone, and why?
I would love to go to see the pyramids and the Grand Canyon. I would take my daughter and my friend Sarah, she wants to see the northern lights I would skip there with her.
If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things (or people) would you want there with you?
I would take a series of books I like; I would take a hammock I couldn’t sleep on the floor with creepies while they don’t scare me, I don’t want to sleep with them either. And I would take a lighter to make fire.
Azkin closed his eyes. He imagined he was looking at the red wolf in shifter form. Calling on all his strength as an Aztec shifter, in his mind’s eye, he projected to Zain so he could also see the very skinny young shifter, around twenty-one years with shocking red hair, very pregnant, and very much alone.
Zain knelt, placed his hand on the wolf’s foreleg, and whispered, “Shift. We know you’re pregnant. We won’t hurt you, but you’re going to harm your cub if you don’t.”
This seemed to kickstart the wolf’s self-preservation, and he shifted. Then, he scurried along on his ass toward the wall, trying to make himself appear small.
“Zain heal him. I’ll hold his arm. Please, before he goes into shock and we lose him.” Zain leaned forward as the smaller, almost feral shifter, growled at him.
“Alpha Zain is going to do a healing on your cub now. And then, we are taking you back to the Aztec pack lands.”
The shifter gasped and settled instantly. Something shifted behind his eyes, and he sighed.
Forcing all the Alpha pheromones, Alpha energy, and calming pheromones Zain could to the smaller shifter, Zain started the healing. From the color of the healing, they knew he was a feral omega from a lab. They needed this young one alive. Even just to birth his cub.
Feral wolves were wolves that had been in shift more than three months. This young one had been in shifter form a lot longer than that.
As Zain started to heal him, he could see his cub, hanging on to a need to survive, a tiny white wolf.
Tears prickled on Zain’s face. Healing with cubs involved brought this reaction from Zain, and each time Azkin witnessed empathy in his mate, it brought him joy.
I live in Northern Ireland. Mom to two kids, totally crazy goings on in our house so it’s not surprising I write gay romance, paranormal shifters. Archangels and angels.
I love to channel the characters who waltz into my mind, they refuse to leave until I write their story.
The magic of the spirit/other world is in the books I write. I am a Spiritual and Psychic medium, and we all need a little magic in our lives. I am a spiritual teacher I walk many roads.
I am often found with my head a book, or earphones on as I listen to a book, or I am writing.
The biggest challenge so far has been the dyslexia. I have a set routine, and many people do not run on the same timeline as me, it’s been frustrating. Though lots of coffee seems to help, the animals in my life ground me.
My passion lies with the paranormal of our world, as well as a love of Sci-fi.
I have a rescued cat Theodore, the rescue advertised looking for homes for black cats no one wanted them. I also am mom to three Boxers, Dante, Khaleesi, and Sorcha. And nanny to my daughters two dogs, boxer Aria litter sister to Khaleesi, and brother Dante. Also a little mongrel Riley.
I love showing dogs this takes me out of my head and away from the computer, it brings out the competitive in me. It also helps me hone the vision of boxers for the future helping to promote the breed.
This gives me something to do outside of sitting in front of the PC, Training the dogs in protection as well as the showring. I am looking forward to 2020 in the showring, and 2020 for personal writing goals.
