Author Monthly Post – Anne Barwell – Balancing Act

I hope everyone is keeping safe, and that you and yours are okay. We’re mid way through week 4 of level 4 lockdown here in New Zealand, and find out tomorrow whether we’re going into level 3, or staying at 4 a bit longer. Even if the levels change, I’ll be continuing to work from home as my asthma puts me into the higher risk category. I’m very relieved that we got Mum settled in the rest home before all this hit, or I’d be lot more stressed.

This month has been a bit of a balancing act, writing wise. I started off entirely working on edits, then started to get twitchy with the idea that all I’d be pubbing this year would be re-pubs apart from The Harp and The Sea, and The Blue later in the year.

As I’d been working on my Sleepless City titles, those characters got very enthused about the spin off I’d wanted to write since that series came out. Long story about why I hadn’t written it, which I’m not going to repeat here, but now I’m indie pubbing, I can now run with it.

I’d written just over 25K on Double Exposure in just over two weeks, then thought, hang on if I just write I’m going to end up with the opposite issue—loads of books that need editing and still nothing out there. I’m getting a little on edge that I have a 13 book back list and 10 books still to get back out.

At present I have a lot more writing time than I usually have, so when life gets back to the new normal, I’m aiming to write x amount of days a week, and edit x amount of days a week, so have started on a version of that this week.

We’ll see how it goes, especially as I’m expecting edits for The Harp and the Sea this week.

Meanwhile I’ve sorted out some paid advertising and am working my way through a free webinar about Amazon ads. Wish me luck.

Leaving you with a photo of Kaylee, as she’s my bubble companion through all of this. Thank goodness for technology and the internet or I’d be feeling very isolated. I’m very relieved I hung onto my landline too, as I would have gone way over my minutes on my mobile this month.

I’ve also got a lot of knitting done, my garden is weed free for the first time ever, and I’ve pulled out my cross stitch patterns and started a project for something work related.

Meantime I’d love to see some of you in my readers group and/or signing up for my newsletter.

I’m so glad you’re safe. Your mom is lucky her rest home is safe. So many have died here in the US in nursing homes. It’s horrible.

I’ve been reading so many ARC’s I have characters and plots running through my mind day and night. It makes for some really fascinating dreams…especially when they cross over from one genre to another!

Take care and good luck with the writing!

It ate my first reply so apologies if this posts twice.

I hope you and yours are okay and safe. We’ve had some clusters and deaths in rest homes here too so keeping my fingers crossed the measures hers have taken keep her safe.

I’ve had some interesting dreams too – with my characters, and I’m also reading a lot of fabulous ARCs. Escapism has been a wonderful thing these past few weeks.

Take care too, and thanks for commenting!
