BLURB:
Yet another series of poor decisions lands Parker Levin back in his mother’s house, working at her coffee shop, and feeling like a failure. Then he learns his ex-boyfriend has died by suicide and things go from bad to worse. When he meets a handsome stranger, he doesn’t have much left to lose.
Ten years ago Wesley Anker made a grave mistake. Since then he’s lived in near isolation, supporting himself by making custom furniture and only rarely connecting with other people. When he attempts to make amends, he encounters Parker, a beautiful and colorful young man, and he agrees to Parker’s impulsive request to join him.
Together, Parker and Wes find quick friendship and fierce attraction. But Wes’s past demons haunt his footsteps, and Parker’s struggle to plan a future has him stumbling through life. Then they uncover evidence that suggests Parker’s ex’s death might not have been a straightforward suicide, and every path seems to lead to dead ends and destruction. Can Parker and Wes find their way to lasting love when the route is hidden?
REVIEW:
Outside a coffeehouse in Portland, called P-Town, a man stood, simply pondering his lunch options, while another man approached, intent on going inside. They notice each other, but there’s only one smile and a simple nod for acknowledgement. No air crackling, wind blowing or angels singing to signal Wes and Parker’s first meeting as a momentous event.
And honestly, I appreciated the lack of insta- spark, or anything along those lines. Instead, Wes and Parker are offered a gradual, steady process of knowing each other. And they couldn’t be more different, alt least at first glance. Parker is a drifter, still searching for a meaning to his life, while Wes has already found his place in the world, living in his refashioned school bus and creating beautiful furniture. Parker is also vibrant, colorful and animated,in contrast to Wes’s silent, contemplative personality. But that’s precisely why they’re like matching puzzle pieces, wonderfully perfect to complete one another.
As always, Kim Fielding was brilliant at writing characters and their feelings. Wes and Parker are definitely flawed and always honest about their imperfections, and because of that all the more endearing. I mean, it’s easy to see they are good people, gentle, kind and giving. But it was when they showed their fears, regrets and insecurities, that they become more relatable. I felt sorry for all their struggles, for each time they stumbled or lost faith in themselves. At times it seemed like they wouldn’t make it, especially when Wes almost lost his life.
Yes,because 𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝘀 𝗡𝗼 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 also has a side plot of mystery. Parker’s last boyfriend, Logan, has had a suspicious death, and of course Wes and Parker took it upon themselves to discover the truth. Well, mostly Wes, with an ugly outcome. But the Logan situation only added a bit of intrigue to an already beautiful story. And brought forth stronger Wes and Parker’s doubts about where they should go next with their relationship, where would their life paths take them. But what if…*gasp*… love doesn’t really need a direction? What if they could drift together, hand in hand, and, when needed, use Wes’s bus and Parker’s mom as anchors?
Well, read 𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝘀 𝗡𝗼 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 to find out. If nothing else, you’ll find discover why love can be compared to an IKEA dining table, lol.
I loved it.
