Can one gay man defeat Alaska’s hairpocalypse and win the sexy lumberjack?
The logging town of Sithole, Alaska, hasn’t had a decent hairdresser in two years. The men look like shaggy yaks and the women…well, let’s not get too personal…they’re in desperate need of a makeover. The mayor has sent out a mayday call requesting a female hairdresser but when the new hair stylist arrives it’s the outrageous rainbow tornado, Frankie Burfitt, escaping a cheating boyfriend. Neither side knows what they are getting into but, after some initial reluctance, the women of the town pack his salon, the timber men need a bit more persuasion, especially one particular swarthy lumberjack, Bud Guyder, who’s caught Frankie’s eye. Is the shy logger a little gay curious or just a tease?
REVIEW:
I will tell you, there are a couple of instances where homophobia and comments are made in this book. There is also talk of beatings by some men, even though it was swept under the rug. It’s not real real bad, but bad enough. Just a small warning. Other than one of the homophobic assholes I wanted to slap the hell out of, this book was great. It was funny as hell. It had great characters and left you wanting more. That I think was the only thing I was kind of upset about. Was the way it ended. Kind of cliffhangery. It’s an implied HEA, but still.
Frankie is the shit for me. I love his attitude, even when he’s off his game. He’s just smartassy, snarky and loads of fun. But he’s also someone dependable, a good listener and a great friend. He’s also a good boss. But he was given the raw end of the deal when his cheating boyfriend booted him after finding out he’d been cheating on him the whole time. And with his so called best friends at one point. But what makes it worse, is the salon where he works. The boss is best friends with his ex and is making it quite clear it’s time for Frankie to move on. And he does. To what he calls, Shithole, Alaska. (Which is really Sithole, btw). But they were expecting a girl, not a guy. And not a gay guy at that. But the mayor loves him, he needs a new life and it’s time to start over. With his own salon. Let’s just hope this town is ready for Frankie.
Frankie, Chuck and Mabel were my favorites in this book. Frankie, the gay guy, Chuck, the female mayor, and Mabel, the brothel owner. They quickly became fast friends. And I adore them. They all have that no nonsense attitude. They don’t put up with people’s BS, and aren’t afraid to tell them off. They just have that automatic snarkiness that I just love. But they’re good people. Damn good people. With the stories told by these guys in this story, I just loved them even more. And it added more depth to the characters. There are a few of the buttheads. You have those everywhere you go. Especially in real life. And it gave the story a good twist. Not necessarily a great one, depending on how you look at it. You’ll see.
The fact is, it’s a great little story. It’s not real long, but it’s fun. Those three especially, have no filter and just add a zest to life in that boring little town. I loved it. I hope you do too. Not to mention…the title alone. LOL!
