His whole life Hrafn had been ridiculed for his inability to always understand things. He was slower than others when it came to comprehending the world around him, but that didn’t mean he didn’t want what everyone else did – love. Yet, he was sure that would never happen for him, for who could ever learn to love someone like him?
With a knock on the door, Teagan’s world had been changed. Unsure how life could be so cruel and take his family from him, Teagan struggled to find meaning in his life. Searching for his ancestry led him to the place where the origins of his family tree began. If he’d known his being there would bring hell upon earth to that small town, he never would have come. Then again, if he hadn’t, he never would have met his fate.
Hrafn and Teagan must find a way to break down the barriers of their past so they can see what is Beneath the Surface if they hope to find their eternal love.
REVIEW:
Oh *sighs*. This was the other one I wanted more than anything. If you’ve been keeping up with this series, you know Hrafn is a bit ‘slower’ than the others in that he doesn’t get things as quick due to brain injuries. Thanks to his asshole father. He hoped and prayed that his bondmate would really love him, but he wasn’t for sure because he felt like everyone thought he was a loser. And after 1200 years, the abuse from his father still rang in his ears. So I really wanted someone special for him. He deserves it and so much more.
When Hrafn gets to Scotland to get to Teagan, it’s almost not in time. He does all he can to protect him and keep him safe, while trying to explain a bit, but fighting the pets is hard. When they get the veil closed and the pets are all gone, thanks to Teagan’s new ability, they have to rush Teagan to the hospital. He’s hurt and almost doesn’t make it, but for Hrafn, he fights and lives. And now Hrafn has to explain everything to him and how he knows all about it. But he doesn’t get to explain it all before there’s another attack. Teagan loses a friend and a lot of people are hurt but they get it closed one more time. And Hrafn drags Teagan away to Colorado, where a lot of secrets come to light. As usual, by Fen. And heaven forbid, he explain half of what they need to know. What they do know, is Teagan is in a lot more trouble than the rest, when they find out why. And it’s not just the Unseelie they are having to fight now, but the Seelie as well. And the things they can do are making everyone wonder if they will truly be able to defeat them. All this, while Hrafn and Teagan are trying to figure out their relationship. Teagan wants Hrafn but Hrafn is too afraid to hope. Until Teagan flat out shows him and they bond. There are hurt feelings sometimes, as Teagan learns to navigate this sensitive man, but his love for Hrafn is not a doubt. Now Hrafn needs to believe that Teagan sees beneath his surface to the heart below and they need to stay alive to stay together forever.
Hrafn, out of all of them, is my favorite. I love all the guys in their ways, but something about Hrafn. His innocence and gold of a heart makes him so beautiful. He hates to fight but does it because he knows he needs to. He’s so soft hearted and tender. Beautiful and vital. His soul is so pure, there is just a glow to him. And anyone who doesn’t see it is blind. He’s amazing. And it breaks my heart he’s so hard on himself. Being abused by his father wasn’t his fault, but those words of that hateful man can’t seem to leave him.
Which is why I was happy when Teagan started really seeing him. He saw how Hrafn really was. His heart. His soul. He felt like crap if he phrased something wrong and upset the man because that was never his intention. He wanted to uplift him. Especially when he found out what had happened to him. And he did. He was forever telling Hrafn he loved him. Or touching him. Or something to let the man know he was special and loved.
This book made me so happy. It’s going to be a rough journey through the next few books. They’ve got a major fight coming on their hands, but they’ve all become a family and stand for each other no matter what.
