BLURB:
After being attacked by a drug addict, Dr. Josh Parker fled New York, his career as an ER doctor, and a failed relationship. Determined to start fresh, he takes a job as a concierge doctor to the wealthy older population of sunny Naples, Florida. Nothing to fear there. No trauma. No stress.
It’s a good idea that doesn’t last long. Traveling to his new home, he discovers a car accident and is forced to make a detour to render aid. There he meets sexy paramedic Ian Manolas.
Since Ian returned from the Army, every day has been a struggle to atone for past mistakes. The Glades Free Clinic is his chosen path to redemption. The people Ian helps are a world away from Josh’s wealthy clients though. Addicts, prostitutes, gang members: they all come to Ian’s clinic for help, not judgment. He’ll do almost anything to keep the clinic going, including roping in one reluctant—and hot—ex-ER doctor.
The attraction is immediate, but Josh wants nothing to do with Ian’s clinic. For them to have a future, both men must work together to find a path to love, while helping those who need them most.
REVIEW:
This was a pretty good story. All about second chances of different kinds. When you’re trying to turn your life around or get over fears, it’s a hard thing to do. It takes a lot of work and sometimes you just have to grab life by the balls and just do it.
After being stabbed on night while working in the ER, Josh had a fear of going back. Especially when his supposed fiance made things worse by working with the PR people and making it seem like it was all Josh’s fault. It wasn’t. Add everything up, and Josh was done. It was time to move on. So he packed up a few things and moved to Florida to start a new job. On his way to his new home, he comes upon a wreck. He does all he can, even calling in 911, but was not prepared for the ass that was one of the paramedics, Ian. But Ian is persistent in trying to get to know Josh and it’s working, until secrets come to light and it shocks Josh to his core. There may be no coming back from this now, as Ian knew he messed up.
Being stabbed by a druggie in the ER, man if it was me, I don’t know if I could ever go back. But then again, it takes a special kind of person to be able to handle that kind of job. Especially in a big city like New York, there’s just something about the thrill of it all. I guess like being an adrenaline junkie almost. But after that, I don’t blame Josh for running. There were other factors involved, yes, but that was one of the biggest. But being in his new job in his new home, still came with emergency situations, and Josh was starting to realize how much he missed it all. But fear is a powerful thing.
For Ian, second chances came from his own drug addicts past and not being able to save some people when he was in the military. For him, it was an atonement. Even then, it’s not always a good thing, because the guilt outweighs everything else. You have to realize something things just aren’t your fault. And if they are, make atonement, but in the right way. It’s a tough thing all around.
The one thing that remains, though, is hope. No matter how beat down both of these guys seem to get, they held on to hope that it would somehow, some way, get better. That something would break though. They made the necessary steps and kept trying. Doesn’t mean it was easy, but they kept trying.
