- I love planning to write. I love having written. Actually writing, though? That’s hard, hard work, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Sometimes it’s a joy. Sometimes it’s torture.
- I love listening to my own books on audio. The narrators often surprise me with their takes on characters and scenes, and I feel as if my creations have taken on lives of their own.
- I get tons of great ideas while showering and brushing my teeth.
- I also get great ideas just before falling asleep. I keep a notepad and pen at bedside–but I don’t always understand my own notes in the morning.
- I read my reviews, even though I’ve been warned not to.
- I squee silently to myself over getting to be friends with such talented authors, artists, and narrators.
- I adore my editors, even if I sometimes grumble over edits.
- It’s taken me a lot of time to take constructive criticism in the spirit in which it’s intended, rather than secretly interpreting it as a personal attack.
- I enjoy leafing through my translations even though I don’t understand them.
- Caffeine. Lots and lots of caffeine.
- I get nervous before each and every new release. It’s like a combination of a first date and sending your kid off to college.
- I’m a terrible typist. Sometimes my typos are so horrible that Word just gives up.
- I get my characters’ names mixed up all the time. (I do this with my kids’ names too.)
- Sometimes I miss writing fanfic.
- I often struggle to find enough time to read other people’s books.
- When I have a rough time at the day job, I torture my characters for a while. Then I feel better.
- I have 23 single-spaced pages of story ideas, most no longer than a paragraph. I will die without ever getting to all of my ideas, which is painful.
- I would really, really, really love for one (or more!) of my stories to be made into a movie.
- I once forgot Mae’s Cafe in Rattlesnake is a fictional place and tried to make plans to have breakfast there.
- When I get an email from someone who’s enjoyed a story, it makes my day. Sometimes it makes my week.

Kim Fielding is the bestselling author of numerous m/m romance novels, novellas, and short stories. Like Kim herself, her work is eclectic, spanning genres such as contemporary, fantasy, paranormal, and historical. Her stories are set in alternate worlds, in 15th century Bosnia, in modern-day Oregon. Her heroes are hipster architect werewolves, housekeepers, maimed giants, and conflicted graduate students. They’re usually flawed, they often encounter terrible obstacles, but they always find love.
After having migrated back and forth across the western two-thirds of the United States, Kim calls the boring part of California home. She lives there with her husband, her two daughters, and her day job as a university professor, but escapes as often as possible via car, train, plane, or boat. This may explain why her characters often seem to be in transit as well. She dreams of traveling and writing full-time.
