Love Bytes says hello and welcome to author A.E Via joining us today to talk about new release “Nothing Special VI (S.W.A.T Edition): His Hart’s Command”. A.E talks to us about the Nothing Special series shares and exclusive excerpt with us and there is a giveaway to participate in!
Welcome A.E 🙂
IT’s ABOUT THAT TIME AGAIN!
I’m so happy to be back with the next installment from my Nothing Special series. It’s been a while since I visited with my guys and let me tell you it was one helluva ride they took me on. This title has all the guys you love from the previous stories and some new that I’m sure you’ll adore. Which can make this title stand on its on. Since my last two novels, my alpha lovers have asked for more action and hotter romance. I hope I delivered.
I’m doing a guest post on each stop of my limited tour and each one WILL BE DIFFERENT. I never know what to talk about or say for a post – not wanting to do the usual – so I’m gonna talk about my many experiences I had over the several months of writing this book. Some will be funny quips, cute tales, people I spoke to, emotions I experienced, etc.
What I wanna talk about on Love Bytes today is how much I enjoy writing men and how hard they can love. But, my goodness, I’m fed up with people complaining that all women in MM books are evil and have some twisted motives or an ‘I’m the biggest bitch in existence’ attitudes. First. I’ve read plenty of amazing female characters in MM. I’ve personally wrote some. In NSVI I have a female who’s abusive and aggressive, yes (that happens in the real world), and I have a man in the books that’s a bully also. I also have a female in the book who’s the sergeant of the badass SWAT teams and the lead sniper on the SWAT team is also a female. I wonder what they’re evil plots were? Or were the strong women just ignored and the evil one was focused on most. I think its far from a trend that there are no strong female characters. I would hope authors are just giving readers a variety of all types of individuals and it’d be appreciated. It’s nice to think that there are no angry, abusive wives in the world but there are.
Thank you all for listening and thank you so much Dani for letting me stop by again. I adore you, love.
2019 will be the start of a lot of new things for me in my writing. Make sure you’re checking out my overhauled, prettily-polished website for the New Year and see what’s popping off first. http://authoraevia.com
Definitely leave me a comment below on your thoughts, (DO YOU HAVE a problem reading about female baddies in MM books?), and enter a chance to win some of the kickass prizes in my giveaway that correlates with my computer-guru, MC. That means sweet gadgets.

Synopsis:
Lennox Freeman (Free) is one of the best hackers in the world which has caused him to spend most of his life on the run. Never able to put down roots, he couldn’t trust anyone not to take advantage of him, even his own family. If it wasn’t for his best friend, Tech, shielding him, Free’s father would’ve sold him and his skills to the highest bidding crime family when he was still a student at MIT. Free owed Tech his life; so when his friend called for him to come to Atlanta to work with him, he couldn’t say no. However, he wasn’t expecting the overprotective group of detectives that made up Atlanta PD’s most notorious task force. And he certainly wasn’t prepared for the large-and-in-charge SWAT Captain that was responsible for their safety.
Ivan Hart has lived and bled one creed all of his life: To Serve and Protect. His intense focus and determination in law enforcement has led him to finally commanding his own team. He’d worked hard to put together a squad of badasses capable of backing up a very dangerous team of detectives. Being God and Day’s last line of defense came with a lot of responsibility that he took very seriously.
After his divorce was final Hart turned right around and remarried his job. He had his good friends there in the office with him every day, so it was easier to ignore the few quiet hours he spent at home alone each night. He’d settled well into his new routine and was comfortable with it. Then God decided to disrupt everything by hiring another tech specialist for his department. A man whose brains, trendy looks, and voice would leave Hart tongue-tied and captivated at their first introduction.
Free quickly awakens a passion in Hart that he long thought was dead. An attraction he didn’t know existed. He couldn’t fathom that the sexy cyber genius could be interested in an over-sized, big-bearded brute that served criminals the bottom line for a living. No matter what his best friend, God said.
A future with Hart could be potentially dangerous and often times full of terrifyingly close calls; but little did he know that so could falling for the most hunted hacker in the world. All Lennox Freeman wants in life is security, love and protection… Hart had all that to give and more.
This novel is a part of a series and contains previously mentioned characters, but CAN BE read as a standalone. No cliffhangers.
Hart checked his watch for the fifth time in twenty minutes. It was almost two and he hadn’t seen Free yet. He’d been running fight simulations all morning and forced-entry reruns until his lungs burned and his thighs ached. But he was used to it. That was what they did. Practice. Then practice some more. They ran the same forced-entry route over and over until it felt choreographed. Until they no longer had to think about the steps and there were zero mistakes. So, in the field, when they moved in, it was as smooth and precise as a well-rehearsed dance—no errors. His team was the officers’ last line of defense. If they fucked up, all hell would break loose. So they practiced routinely if they weren’t on call.
Hart: Will you let him take lunch already, bighead!!!!!!
He thought about sending two or three big-head related gifs, but he didn’t have time for all that.
Carlos came through his open door, not paying him much attention as he refiled some cases in his file cabinet. “What are you doing? I thought you were going to lunch at one-thirty? Do you want me to order you something?”
Hart’s phone buzzed.
God: DAMN! He left upstairs five minutes ago you impatient, overzealous manvirgin
He wasn’t confined to his desk like his assistant thought, he was waiting on his lunch date. “No thanks. I’m going to the break room right now.”
“The break room?” Carlos frowned. “Okay, since when do you eat in there?”
Hart didn’t answer. He just got up and brushed past Carlos, murmuring something about wanting a cold sandwich. He left his unit and made a sharp left toward their break room at the end of the hall. It was nice and had lots of vending machines, but it was rarely used. SWAT was the only department on the top floor, and with a pretty decent cafeteria between them and the officers downstairs, it stayed deserted. He tucked his phone into his back pocket, wishing he had time to respond to God’s last jab, but he’d reserve that for later.
He pushed open the door and there he was, sitting alone at the far table with a partially eaten sandwich in his hand. He was staring at his tablet screen until Hart started to move toward him. Free looked up with surprise as if he wasn’t expecting him. Then a slow appreciative smile began to form on his smooth lips as his dark gaze slid up and down Hart’s body.
His boots felt as if they weighed a ton. He couldn’t believe a man as sexy as Free was up there just to see him. There were so many handsome, young, sinuous men—a few even openly gay—right there in their station who would’ve died for Free’s attention. But there he was. Those mysterious eyes eating up his every step.
Hart held his eye contact. He had to let go of his inhibitions and insecurities just like God had told him. Free had already said ‘yes’ to seeing him—the hard part, the guessing part was over. Now all he had to do was seal the deal. Make him his. He pulled out the chair beside Free and sat, turning the chair to face him. He spread his legs wide and reached over and jerked Free’s chair until he was between them. His startled expression of amusement made him feel good.
“Can you get a little closer, please?” Free teased him.
Any closer and he’d be on his lap. He figured this was okay after what they’d done earlier, “I can if you really want me to.” He smiled.
Free glanced at his mouth, licking his perfectly sized lips, “You have a great smile. Did I tell you that?”
Hart was hoping he wasn’t blushing, but the warmth under his collar told him the truth. How am I supposed to take compliments from him? “Thank you.” Was all he could think to say.
“How was practice?”
He nodded. “Okay. Repetitive, but necessary.” He watched Free pick off a few shreds of lettuce and toss them onto the wrapper. “What are you eating?”
“A chicken salad wrap.” Free shrugged, “It’s not half bad. You guys really do have the better machines.”
“Hmm.” Hart smirked. “Let me taste.”
Free chuckled lightly, “Um, sure.”
But, Hart was already going in. He gripped Free’s hand while it still held the wrap and brought it to his lips. He made sure to open wide and shoved the last three quarters of his lunch into his mouth, his lips sliding over Free’s slim fingers as he did.
He started chewing heartily as Free let out a cute little, “Heeeey.”
Hart had it devoured and swallowed in seconds, then pointed toward Free’s bottle of water already reaching. “May I?”
“Wait!” Free snatched the bottle just in time. He cracked the seal and took a small drink then handed it to him. “Sure. Enjoy.”
Hart winked and took the water, draining the bottle quickly. He checked his watch, it was almost three. Shit. “I’m sorry I don’t have much time.”
“So you decided to finish my lunch for me?” Free’s laugh was smooth and deep.
Hope you enjoyed!
A.E. (Adrienne) Via has been a best-selling author in gay romance for five years now, but she’s no stranger to MM. She’s been an avid reader of gay lit for over twenty years before she picked up her laptop to place her own kiss on this beautiful genre. She’s also the founder and owner of Via Star Wings Books, having published a couple of great new up and coming MM authors.
A.E. has a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Virginia Wesleyan College that she used to start her own paralegal firm after she graduated in 2008. She spent five years preparing and filing bankruptcy petitions for struggling blue collar workers who couldn’t afford to file with a lawyer. It was a rewarding and satisfying career… but another path called to me. Writing.
A.E.’s writing embodies everything from hopelessly romantic to adventure, to scandalous. Her stories often include intriguing edges and twists that take readers to new, thought-provoking depths.
Now that she’s gotten over her 10 books published hump, she’s kind of known now for her play rough and love hard, bad boy, alphas. However, I do like to push myself to step out of my comfort zone and explore with different tropes, but I never push myself into a whole other genre. I’m head over heels for gay romance and I have tons of more hot stories to tell.

IRL there are all kinds of folks, so books reflect that! Fun excerpt, thanks for sharing, and good luck with the release!
As long as the character is nuanced and three-dimensional, it’s fine!
I don’t have a problem reading women being badasses, more so than being the reason for everything evil that has befallen a gay character, as long as they are relatable.
As you stated there are good woman and bad woman and bad ass woman. I think as long as an author doesn’t always makes a woman the bad, evil villain; having the woman be the bad guy isn’t a problem.
I think this applies to any character, I guess they could all be potentially stereotyped, it’s the depth with which the character is drawn the draws me in.
