LENGTH: 71 pages
RELEASE DATE: September 30, 2018
BLURB:
When Melissa attends her ten-year high school reunion, all she wants is to tell her longtime crush how much she’s always loved her. They will then ride off into the sunset and live happily ever after. Alas, the woman has a wife. She has a child, and she isn’t interested.
In walks T.J., a beautiful woman with long braids and a lovely smile. They barely knew each other in high school, but it may be time for them to get to know each other better. And then there’s Hayley, another old high school friend. She seems to have her sights on Melissa, too.
Melissa may not get the woman she thought she wanted, but, if she can put aside the story she’s already written for herself, she may just get the love she’s always deserved.
REVIEW:
The name of this series is spot-on—this is certainly a lesbian light read. It’s fun, low-stress, sweet, and humorous.
Melissa is probably a lot like all of us—she hopes and dreams for that perfect love affair she reads about in her favorite romance novels. She has her sights set on Gina, her high school crush, and she wants to make her move at their ten-year high school reunion. But Melissa has to learn the hard way that real life isn’t quite as glamorous as a fantasy situation, but sometimes it can drop something even better into your lap.
There are a lot of side characters in this story, but they all have unique personalities and contributed something to Melissa’s character. I like how Melissa, who wasn’t out until college, is frustrated upon discovering that many of her female friends had same-sex experiences in high school while she was still questioning. It’s really relatable for a lot of LGBT folks who thought they were alone during their teen years. Everything makes so much more sense 10 years later!
Melissa’s romance with T.J., a high school acquaintance, is sweet and perfect for the story. They’re both looking for something, but neither of them were expecting to find it at the hotel bar during their reunion. They have an easy chemistry right away. They also communicate really well, especially for two people who are getting to know each other again. There are no head-games or bouts of miscommunication. Some of the language in their love scenes was a little cringey—I’m never a fan of the word “snatch” in any way, shape, or form—but they made up for it with honesty and laughter.
This is a great two-hour read that will leave you smiling. It’s a fluffy story, so the plot itself is pretty predictable, but sometimes that’s just what you need. It will satisfy any sweet tooth.
