Welcome to Kris T. Bethke joining us today to talk about new release “Somebody to Die For”.
Hey everyone! I’m Kris T. Bethke, and I’m here to talk about my newest release, Somebody to Die For. It’s the third book in the Requiem Inc. series, and part of the Dreamspun Beyond line.
In the first draft of the first book, Avery had a different name. He had a slightly different character. At his bones, he was the same. He’d lost his love to cancer, and that was made doubly hard by the fact that Luke was not only his husband, but also his bonded, his anchor. We saw, in that first book, that he was coping, but not too well.
During the editing process, I already knew I was going to write his book and had a deadline. So some things needed to change. Before that, he was a necessary character, but a secondary one. Now I knew he’d get his moment to shine in his own book. The first thing that changed was his name (for various reasons) and as soon as I did that, a different character started to emerge. And I knew that this was Avery.
The title of the book might sound familiar, and yes the song had an impact on my writing of the story. That was important too. It actually informed an integral part to the plot. Avery needed to not only find a new love, but he needed to find himself again. He needed to find someone he was willing to die for.
And that’s how I got Jameson.
I’ll admit, I adore Jameson. I love everything about him. His quirky sense of humor and his huge, soft heart. I love that he is attracted to Avery right away, and I love that he won’t be dissuaded, even if he proceeds with caution. This book is mostly about Avery’s journey, because it has to be, but Jameson does his own growing and learning as well.
I love that they grow together. That they help each other become better people. Avery may be older, and perhaps a bit wiser, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t need Jameson at his side. Jameson makes Avery realize how much he’s missed ghostwalking. And his love for Avery is an easy, quiet thing that helps Avery get to a point where he’s ready to return it. It’s not easy, but it’s definitely worth it. For both of them.
I hope you’ll get a chance to check out this latest installment of the series. Somebody to Die For is available everywhere now.
Blurb:
Dying is easy. New love is terrifying.
Avery Wagner quit ghostwalking when he lost his beloved anchor to cancer. Now teaching others who have the ability, he’s beginning to live again—but he’s not looking for another lover, not now, maybe not ever.
But then he meets Jameson… younger, talented, dedicated, almost perfect, even though his mouth sometimes opens ahead of his brain. And Jameson wants Avery desperately, though he’ll settle for friendship if he can’t have more.
When an emergency demands they work together in the field, Avery discovers just how perfect Jameson is. But he had a perfect love once before, and he’s scared to even consider that he might have a chance at another. Can he trust Jameson with his newly healing heart?
