Hi everybody! I’m here for my Love Bytes monthly post. I truly have to rush this, so I’m not crowding the next author on the schedule, but I wanted to touch base with you because some good things have happened since I last checked in, and also you can help me by answering some questions, if you would.
First, news: Remember that excerpt I posted last month? Well, the book has been accepted by Mischief Corner Books as part of it’s 2018 Escape for the Holidays collection. It’s a 30,000 word novella, a second chance love story at it’s core, tipping into fantasy with a little goddess magic and a touch of mischief-making by a Puck-like forest spirit. I’m really stoked to be published by MCB, one of my favorite LGBTQ+ publishers—I’ve admired them from afar for a long time, and it was so sweet to have the first story I sent them end up in contract.
The Holiday Home Hotel is a contemporary male/male romance with paranormal elements that just crosses the line separating magical realism from fantasy. It features a uniquely inclusive holiday setting and main characters from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Daren Novak and Gunny Schiller have known each other since freshmen days at the U, but they parted bitterly a decade or so prior to the moment when winter’s harsh weather unexpectedly brings them face to face—helped along by a minor goddess and powerful forest spirit from Slavic cosmology. With a supernatural push, the old romantic flame, long since banked to coals, just might melt their hearts.
The next news? All the Vasquez and James ebooks are on sale at all retailers for $1 each. This series is a true favorite among a wide cross-section of readers in the MM Romance genre—something I’m thrilled to be able to say. If you’ve read them, thanks. If you want to share about the sale to those who haven’t, thank you more. If you haven’t gotten lost in the long arc of this love story—which spreads from book 1 to book 6, develops even in the face of all sorts of suspense and trials and tribulations along the way, and ends with a true and tender happy ever after, then now is a great time to start—all the books for $6 total. The sale is front page news at Dreamspinner, so just go to Dreamspinner Press and click on the sale image.
Now for the questions: Pretty simple. I have been unable to do cons (conferences, conventions) for a few years. In 2019, I’m going to go to at least one. I’d like to go to more. I’ve heard all kinds of preferences from authors, but as a reader, which events do you love? Which ones make you feel like you’ve really had a chance to get to know authors? If you’ve never gone, which would be your first choice? Do you buy books if they’re sale priced at the event? Get them signed? Or do you hate cons and swear you’ll never go to another one? What’s something you wish authors would do/would not do at cons? All answers are appreciated, and I’ll choose a commenter at random to get a signed paperback from my backlist.
Once again, thanks to Love Bytes for hosting me, and thank you, everybody, for reading! I’ll see you next month!
I’d go to GRL if I could. So many of my favorite authors attend.
I keep saying I’m going to make it to GRL! So far, hasn’t worked out, but I think I should go at least once, don’t you think? Maybe we’ll both make it within the next couple of years. Sorry for taking so very long to respond. I appreciate your comment.
I don’t think I’ll ever make it to a convention because I can’t do crowds. If I ever get over that and can be more sociable I think I would like to go to GRL or Book Expo. My sisters went to yaoi-con several times and I had them get me some books I really wanted since I knew it would be cheaper and even got them signed.
Crowds can be a problem for some, I know, and I’m sorry to hear that’s the case. Even though I’m an introvert by nature, I’m comfortable in crowds because I feel pleasantly invisible. 🙂 Bargain books is a definite advantage of cons! And signed copies as well. Thanks for commenting, and please accept my apology for taking so long to respond.
I’ve not gone to book con, but did some professional ones in the day. As for book cons, I know GRL is big, so that might be a choice, but I might try for some far away one, like one in Europe, so I can enjoy the travel as well. What I’d enjoy most would be meeting/listening to authors in person, and yeah, I’d probably buy some books on sale, too.
Oh, I’d love to go to Euro Pride Con, and I’m still trying to tell myself I’ll make it this coming summer. It may be wishful thinking, but I’m closer to being abole to do it than I have been for the last few years. Thanks for your reply and sorry it took me so long to respond!
I have never been able to join one, but I want to some day. I would buy books and have them signed, that’s for sure. and I love events where you can interact with the author, workshops or small chats about the work in progress.
Thanks for replying, Susana. I’ve been slow to reply, and I’m sorry. I do appreciate you joining in the discussion.
