Thank you to Love Bytes for having me here today! I’m excited to introduce everyone to the second book in my Omegaverse series, Alpha Heat. When I typed the words THE END on the first in the series, Slow Heat, I knew that I needed to write a book for the side character Xan. He was left in far too painful a position to refuse to give him a happy ending in his own book, and I knew exactly how his story would end before I typed the first word.
While the hot and heavy romance of the book is between Xan and another side character from Slow Heat, Urho, there is another integral character involved in Xan’s happy ending: Caleb—an asexual and aromantic omega who loves deeply, but without romantic inclinations or sexual attractions.
The decision to include Caleb in the dynamic wasn’t a conscious one. I know many authors are deliberate planners of their stories, but I’m more of a mystical sort. I like the characters to come to me with their stories and then I go with their flow. When I asked Xan about his future, he arrived with Caleb in tow, introducing him as his contracted omega, and in that moment I knew exactly how their story would turn out.
The only question then was how do I write a romance between two people while respecting the third person who doesn’t want anything to do with romance? In the end, I think it all turned out quite well, and early readers are loving Caleb and his contribution to the book.
I also want to thank the sensitivity reader who was kind enough to give me some tips regarding ace/aro representation in the book. I wanted to make sure Caleb was the kind of character that uplifted everyone who read him, including ace/aro people themselves. She helped me (hopefully) do that. Her input was priceless.
I hope everyone gives Alpha Heat a shot, especially if you loved Slow Heat. Xan and Urho are button-pushing from the start and their happy ending is worth the wait!
Thank you again to Love Bytes and for readers who make the blood, sweat, and tears of writing so worth it!
A desperate young alpha. An older alpha with a hero complex. A forbidden love that can’t be denied.
Young Xan Heelies knows he can never have what he truly wants: a passionate romance and happy-ever-after with another alpha. It’s not only forbidden by the prevailing faith of the land, but such acts are illegal.
Urho Chase is a middle-aged alpha with a heartbreaking past. Careful, controlled, and steadfast, his friends dub him old-fashioned and staid. When Urho discovers a dangerous side to Xan’s life that he never imagined, his world is rocked and he’s consumed by desire. The carefully sewn seams that held him together after the loss of his omega and son come apart—and so does he.
But to love each other and make a life together, Xan and Urho risk utter ruin. With the acceptance and support of Caleb, Xan’s asexual and aromantic omega and dear friend, they must find the strength to embrace danger and build the family they deserve.
This gay romance novel by Leta Blake is the second in the Slow Heat universe. It’s 130,000 words, with a strong happy ending and a well-crafted, non-shifter Omegaverse. It features alphas, betas, omegas, male pregnancy, heat, and knotting. No cheating. Content warning for brief sexual violence.
