Keeping secrets is never a good way to start a relationship…
Theo hardly has time to date. Between work and caring for his four-year-old son there aren’t many hours left over. He’s lonely though, so he joins a hook-up app and starts chatting to a guy called Luke. Luke seems friendly and they arrange to meet. Theo doesn’t mention that he has a child. It’s early days and he’s worried about putting Luke off before they get to know each other.
Luke is currently working as Santa at the local shopping mall. He figures Theo never has to know. Christmas will be over soon and Luke will move on to a new, less embarrassing job. He’s surprised when Theo and a little boy visit Santa one afternoon. Theo doesn’t recognise Luke, and Luke realises he’s not the only one with a secret.
Despite misgivings on both sides, they start dating, and the chemistry is amazing. But as Christmas approaches their secrets pile up like colourful packages under the tree. If they’re not careful, they’ll lose the best gift of all—each other.
REVIEW:
Christmas in March, well no, but Jay Northcote’s Secret Santa was a good story no matter the time of year. And let’s face it, who doesn’t like a fun Christmas story, no matter the month.
What I really enjoyed about Mr. Northcote’s story is how normal the men are. They are masculine, but not over the top. Theo has a slimmer ‘geeky’ look to him while Luke has a hairy chest and is of an average build. I liked the descriptions of these men so much. I felt like I could walk down the street and see them.
The story does take a little while to get going, but overall that didn’t worry me. I like a slower burn. The two men both have their secrets and it takes a while for them to be revealed. But once everything is out in the open the story speeds up. The intensity between the two men is good. They are hot together and have a bit of fun too.
Archie was a nice highlight for this story. I am generally not into the drunken night baby accident, but Archie’s mum was nice and a cute part of the story. And Archie was very cute with Santa. Their interactions were sweet and that carried through the story between Luke, Theo and Archie.
Overall, Secret Santa was a great, fun Christmas read. I enjoyed the story, the characters and the little bit of Christmas it brought into my March.
