BLURB:
A former foster kid, Hudson always had a simple dream for a perfect life. A husband to love and a family he could come home to every night. It wasn’t a fancy wish, but it might as well have been. Approaching forty, he’s still single—and fighting the battle of the bulge—so his dream probably wasn’t going to happen. Not in this lifetime. Especially not with Drakein Nacash, the drop dead gorgeous man who’s the subject of his nightly fantasies and barely even knows he exists. In one day, his life is turned upside down and he’s introduced to a myth turned real. What if he could have everything he ever dreamed of?
REVIEW:
Let me just start off by saying that this book really surprised me. I mean, the blurb doesn’t give you a whole lot to go on and based on what there was, I had been expecting a completely different story than the one I got. Was that a problem? Hell no! I was intrigued enough to give the story a shot and actually found it was right up my alley as far as books go. Not knowing exactly what it was I was getting into, I felt as though I was taking the journey alongside Hudson as he found himself sucked into a new reality filled with shifters, other worlds and the chance for the family he never thought he’d have.
The story itself and the relationship between the two main characters did start off really fast but things did slow down after that point to allow for a chance to learn more about both Hudson and Drakein. I actually kind of liked the backwards way the characters went about their relationship and it was great to see both men try and make concessions for the sake of their partner. There were some minor bits of conflict between both men due to the situation and how things played out between them, but there wasn’t a great deal of angst bogging the story down. I enjoyed the interactions and that Hudson wasn’t willing to just go along with everything without protest or problem as his reactions seemed more genuine in that respect.
Now, I don’t want to ruin the story by giving a ton away but I will give my general warnings for content you may not want to read. There is mpreg in this story which was as much a surprise to me as it was to the character afflicted but I enjoyed it nonetheless. 😀 It was a fairly present aspect of the story but it wasn’t so in your face as to be obnoxious, in my opinion. There is also one scene featuring a consensual sexual experience with another couple that could easily be skipped over if that isn’t your cup of tea. I actually really enjoyed this one, was kind of surprised by how much I enjoyed it, as it was an interesting twist on a typical shifter story. I thoroughly enjoyed the origin story and the set up that was given, not to mention the characters themselves, which pretty much ensures I’ll be back to read this one again. If you enjoy shifter stories and/or mpreg, I’d give this one a try; the blurb may not say too much but this was a unique, entertaining read that I really enjoyed. 🙂
