Length: Novella
Publisher: Wayward Ink Publishing
Synopsis
The post-apocalyptic world has changed. Colors have changed.
The skies are now red, and the seas fandango pink.
There are those who’ve acquired skills as “squinters”. By narrowing their eyes, they can see people in different colors—colors by which they can define their mood.
Senlin was born a squinter. A child of the foster system, the lack of love has left him with casual views on sex.
When Sicong recruits him into SQX, a squinter organization, Senlin wants nothing more than to jump his bones, but Sicong’s detachment makes Senlin believe his feelings aren’t reciprocated.
Senlin and Sicong’s relationship begins to grow as they undertake missions together.
That is, until an enemy of SQX turns his attention upon them.
Things you may not know about the Characters
Hi guys. Thank you for hosting me in this guest post. I think I may take this opportunity to share some aspects of the characters in Lime and Tangerine that may not be included in the story or may not be easily noticed.
Senlin:
1. Senlin had never had a proper relationship before. That would make whatever it was between Senlin and Sicong, since the two men didn’t define their relationship, Senlin’s first serious involvement with another man.
2. Senlin’s closest relationship with anyone before Sicong was the granny who told him about the industrial breakdown and change in colour. She was the only person Senlin had shed tears for, when he attended her funeral.
Sicong:
1. Sicong grew up in the foster system but got the long end of the straw. He was adopted by loving and privileged parents who supported him even through university. The parents were still alive during the story, and just wasn’t mentioned.
2. Sicong had a two-year relationship with Lesoui when they were in university. Sicong eventually left Lesoui because of Lesoui’s infidelity. They also did have different views of squinters ‘destiny’. Hence the extreme familiarity and hatred between the two.
Shuli:
1. Unfortunately Shuli wasn’t a lesbian. (Surely I have to include some straight characters in the story for, you know, equality.) She had a crush on Sicong from very early on when she joined SQX. “Who wouldn’t?” Shuli would say, “Because of his looks.” She settled for great friends with Sicong, which was special in itself since Sicong didn’t really have many friends.
2. Shuli was married to a norm with two kids. Not even her husband knew about the extent of danger of her job.
I didn’t bother dressing. If they choose to visit at this time at night, they can deal with me just in my undies. I opened the door.
“Senly, are you okay?” Sic rushed through the door and grabbed me into his arms. “Have you had everything checked out by the olives?”
His rush of words confused me. He started to turn me around, which I resisted. “Hold on, cowboy. What’s wrong with you? And why didn’t you use your keys?”
“Oh!” It seemed that something clicked in his head. “It was Noli who got hurt, wasn’t it?”
I nodded. “I raced here after getting off the phone with Shuli when she told me that your unit got sent to the olives. That’s why I don’t have my keys with me; I was in a rush. She’s probably pissed off that I hung up on her. Jumped to conclusions too soon, haven’t I?”
“That you have.” I did enjoy Sic’s arms around me. “But thank you, anyway, for caring. It’s not like you to care so much about your agents.”
Sic put his hands on both sides of my face, making sure I was making full eye contact with him. He had a quizzical look. “I thought you knew.”
“Knew what?” I was sure I had a wide grin.
“I can’t believe you don’t.”
“Say it.” I knew what he meant; I just wanted him to say it.
“Senly, you’re special.” He lowered his forehead against mine.
I squirmed until my head was in the nape of his neck. “I know.”

Growing up in China, KEVIN CAUCHER never thought he’d grow up loving to write; never did he expect himself ending up in Australia either. He is now happily partnered in NSW Illawarra area and writing.
Kevin’s writing is mainly influenced by his growing up as a gay Chinese; he also sometimes pops out totally random stories that has nothing to do with his growing up.
Besides his passion for writing, Kevin has also opened a cafe in December 2015. “There, the cliché of authors writing in a cafe.”
