REVIEW:
Lawrence is a veteran of the Great War who has returned home to take care of his family’s ranch. Aside from the young farm hand, Billy, Lawrence is alone in the house and he has a feeling that something is wrong. On his first night in the house, something frightening happens to him. He is questioning his sanity, but then an incubus named, Elijah, appears and offers to help him with his demon problem in exchange for sex. Lawrence is hesitant about accepting, but the alternative is more frightening. They work together to fight the supernatural forces that haunt Lawrence.
This is one of the few paranormal books I’ve read, but I really enjoyed the spooky feeling this book gave me. The story was well written, and I also enjoyed the historical feeling. Though I liked all the characters, the sex scenes didn’t move me in any way. The attraction the characters felt for one another didn’t appear strong and there wasn’t any romantic connection between them before they were in bed together. I also found nothing sexy about the main character. He was an older man who had to use a cane to walk around due to a bum leg, and he also had a sexual dysfunction. He might have grown on me if there was romance involved, but since it was just sex, I just wasn’t interested. Despite my dislike of the frequent sex scenes, I liked the general plot line which was a mystery of sorts. Overall, I was entertained and the story sparked my interest in the paranormal genre.
