REVIEW:
This is a very good book for such a short read. In Graphic Intentions, we are introduced to Scott Delaney, graphic novelist extraordinaire, who is suffering from a lack of inspiration. After denying an invite out, he decides to take a walk to his favorite cafe to clear his mind. Derek Reinhart is ex military with a tortured past. In the past five years since his release from the army, he has simply been existing. A chance meeting at the cafe with them both leads to Derek agreeing to be Scott’s muse. They both experience a shot of attraction but they also think the other is straight. After meeting at Scott’s place and agreeing to go out, while in the elevator they are approached by the resident religious zealot, who lets Derek know that Scott is gay. Scott fearing rejection is ready to walk away from his newfound friendship but is surprised when Derek kisses him. This begins their passionate journey and discovery that they both have tortured pasts.
I really did enjoy this book. The blurb pretty much summarizes the tale pretty well. Scott was involved in an accident long ago, that resulted with him going to prison and it haunts him daily. Derek was also involved in an accident while serving in the military that haunts him as well. Both men are afraid that they will not find someone that will want them. They believe they belong in the dark and alone. The chemistry between to the two was off the charts. Definitely might want to fan yourself while reading the sex scenes. There is of course the instant love going on but it doesn’t make you want to scream. You can see that both men are tortured and you desperately want them to find their happy ending. I did want to slap the both of them silly when they each that the other was straight. How they didn’t know in the cafe when both of them were pretty much undressing each other with their eyes was beyond me but very sweet. I definitely recommend this book. Although short the characters were well thought out and endearing. The sex scenes didn’t overshadow the plot and the ending was just what I wanted and expected.
