Welcome to Sutton Station: One of the world’s largest working farms in the middle of Australia – where if the animals and heat don’t kill you first, your heart just might.
Charlie Sutton runs Sutton Station the only way he knows how; the way his father did before him. Determined to keep his head down and his heart in check, Charlie swears the red dirt that surrounds him – isolates him – runs through his veins.
American agronomy student Travis Craig arrives at Sutton Station to see how farmers make a living from one of the harshest environments on earth. But it’s not the barren, brutal and totally beautiful landscapes that capture him so completely.
It’s the man with the red dirt heart.
Please note: This book is set in Australia, using Australian English and lingo.
REVIEW:
The note is very accurate and you need to be aware of it 🙂 That being said this story has some very interesting thing that pull you in.
The originality, although it is a well explored genre, in this story using a terrific description of the outback in Australia.
Where I normally am not a big fan of extensive surroundings information I have to say the inspirational way author N.r Walker describes the farm station, the outback of Australia, the inhabitants and the climate is truly a joy to read and follow.
In this story we find Charlie, the owner of the Sutton Station, living and loving his farm. Breathing the red dirt as he himself says, living it, feeling it. When Travis comes to the station to explore the ways things work on the station there is that instant attraction.
Charlie. being closeted and firm believer of keeping his private life into his own hands, struggles to keep his emotions under control. Believing what his father told him makes him not even dare to make a move even when the signs of the reciprocated interest are clear and very much there.
Travis is the one who eventually decides that it is time to lay down the cards and get everything into the open.
What they both find is brilliantly written and explored by the author.
The sexiness, the hidden emotions, the insecurity and the loving connection between the main characters yet also the “father & mother” figure on the farm, thats what makes this story a special one.
Myself , I particularly grew very fond of Travis and his attitude and I mean that in the most positive way. I loved his brattiness ( if that is even a word 🙂 ) and his will to stand up for what he wants and believes in.
I’ve found myself not being bothered at all with the slang and if I have to mention a little thing that bothered me than it would be the missing words even though there were just a few.
N.R Walker gave us as readers a fantastic, up close and personal look into the life on this farm, the surroundings and the people who lives there and for me I am looking very much forward to reading more about all of it.
