AUTHOR: Alexa Land
LENGTH: 279 Pages
RELEASE DATE: December 23, 2016
Does love stand a chance between two men from different worlds, when they’re both being pulled in opposite directions?
Sawyer MacNeil is looking for answers. His time in the Army didn’t go as planned, and he’s still reeling from the end of a relationship that never should have happened in the first place. Now he’s trying to get his life together, while struggling to come to terms with a side of himself he’s always kept hidden.
Sparks fly when Sawyer meets Alastair, an upper-class British graduate student whose future has been mapped out since birth. Alastair can’t promise anything more than a hook-up. He doesn’t have much time left in the States, and a mountain of responsibility and a disapproving family are waiting for him back in the UK. And yet, whatever’s happening between them feels like so much more than a fling.
When tragedy strikes and the two are separated just days after meeting, will Sawyer risk everything to follow his heart?
Yet again, an Alexa Land book keeps me from doing anything else until I can get to the end, sigh, and think damn I liked that. And I’m not joking. I really enjoyed this latest book in Ms. Land’s The Firsts and Forever Series. Just when I think she might run out of characters, more show up. And lest you think this series might get stale, let me tell you it doesn’t. Every time I pick up one of her books I’m enthralled and spend way too much time with my eyes glued to the Kindle screen.
A little background. I had read and reviewed the first eleven books, but hadn’t had a chance until yesterday to pick up Who I Used To Be, Book 12, which someone else reviewed on the blog. I read that one yesterday and this one today. I loved them both.
In Worlds Away, our story turns to Sawyer who we met previously in the series. Sawyer is ex-military, and a big tough motorcycle riding man with some dark secrets from his military past and his relationship with his abusive ex-lover who was also his Commanding Officer in Afghanistan. Sawyer also has another huge secret which he hasn’t shared with anyone…and it is a doozy.
Sawyer has been eyeing this sexy British graduate student named Alastair, who those of you reading along with this series will remember well from several spots in the series, beginning I think (if I remember correctly) with his stint as a street racer. Sawyer thinks Alastair is beyond his reach. Little does he know that Alastair has been eyeing him right back. I loved the tale of these two men, their inner insecurities, and their wildly divergent backgrounds. It was truly a Prince and a Pauper tale. But as always with Ms. Land, you know there is going to be a happily ever after in there somewhere. But…there might just be a lot of crap, and some surprises along the way to that happy-ending! No further spoilers…I’ll just say that I’m really happy they both got their tale.
I highly recommend this book and the entire series. I can’t wait to read the upcoming novella and other books in the series in the future. If you haven’t started reading the series, I’d recommend you do. You could read them out of order, but I wouldn’t. Characters flow from one book to the next in this series, especially my favorite character Nana. If you don’t know Nana yet…get reading!
