BLURB:
Izzy Calhoun Simon, a successful writer for a highly acclaimed TV series embarks on a much needed vacation from her hectic lifestyle when the TV series ends its run. It’s Christmas time in Beacher and the town reminds Izzy of an old fashioned postcard. She soon realizes the contrasts between city living and small town living. When she meets Katelyn Anderson, she is instantly drawn to her, but Katelyn keeps giving her mixed signals.
REVIEW:
This story was rather different that the blurb lead me to believe it was, well other than the part where Katelyn gives out mixed signals, because by goodness does she ever!
Izzy fell for Katelyn from the first time they met in a coffee shop. Although, she constantly questions her feelings. I’m not a huge fan of insta-love stories but knowing it can, and does, happen in real life, I’m able to go with it.
However, the silly miscommunications these two had, and the constant, I want you, I don’t want you, wore thin! At one time Izzy said to Katelyn, I quote:
“I want to hold you all night. Let’s take it slow. Let’s date. I want to court you the way you deserve to be.”
Katelyn immediately disentangled herself from Izzy’s arms, and rolled to the far end of the sofa bed with her back to Izzy. “Good night, Izzy. I’m sorry. You’re right. It would never work between us.”
I still have no idea how Katelyn interrupted, ‘I want to court you’ to being ‘it will never work.’ Given both woman are in their 40’s I guess I didn’t expect this kind of childish behaviour.
Going by the blurb I thought the biggest obstacle these two ladies would have to overcome was their vastly different upbringing, but again I was very wrong! Instead Izzy was overshadowed by Katelyn’s previous lover who died. Angst driven by deceased characters is not something I am fond of. Who can complete with a ghost?
Heat level – there were a couple of love making scenes but nothing overly detailed, and a lot of it off page. For example: ‘When they woke, they showered together, then hurried back to the four poster bed and made love again’.
The things that didn’t work for me, are on me. The story is well edited and flows at a good pace. I recommend this to readers who enjoy lesbian romances, with a lot of angst and a little bit of hot loving.
