What’s the Recipe for a Dream Vacation?
Hey, everyone. I’m back for my monthly post here at Love Bytes. I don’t know about you, but since it’s almost April, I’m already thinking about summer. And we all know what comes along with the summer, right? VACATION!
That’s right. It’s almost that time of the year when most of us put the final touches on our summer vacation plans. We try to plan for every contingency to make sure the once-a-year getaway doesn’t turn into disaster, because, let’s face it, we’ve all had that dream vacation that ended up being a nightmare. No one wants that to happen again!
So what do we have to do to put the dream in dream vacation?
Well, here are the ingredients as I see them:
2-4 Travelers
7-14 Days of vacation
1-4 Hours of travel to destination
5-15 Miles distance of dodging from airport
1 All-Inclusive hotel/resort
1-2 Favorite travel reads
1-3 Libations (optional)
0-3 Excursions
1-3 Wardrobe changes
0-$1,200 Dollars in cost
Directions:
- Mix the Travelers (2 is ideal; 4 is on the verge of pushing your luck) with the days of vacation and hours of travel. Too few travel days combined with long hours of travel time will cause travelers to curdle. Beware.
- Sprinkle in 1 favorite travel read and let sit for duration of travel. Add 1 libation (if needed).
- Gently fold in miles from airport to lodging. *Advanced travelers may wish to add a sprig of private car transport. Be advised: Too many miles to lodging may cause the mixture to break down especially if public transport is unexpectedly added.
- Remove mixture from transport and place in 1 All-Inclusive Hotel/Resort
- Set timer for days of vacation and bake. Occasionally add libations (optional), excursions, travel reads, and wardrobe changes in intervals. Too many of one ingredient can cause lumps.
- In a separate bowl, mix dollars spent on vacation and set aside.
- Take travelers out of All-Inclusive Hotel/Resort and carefully pour miles back to airport into the softening mixture before adding hours of travel back home.
- Upon arrival home, travelers should be nicely browned.
- All done! Take pictures and post on social media.
So, that’s my recipe for a perfect dream vacation. What’s yours?
Jacob Z. Flores lives a double life. During the day, he is a respected college English professor and mid-level administrator. At night and during his summer vacation, he loosens the tie and tosses aside the trendy sports coat to write man on man fiction, where the hardass assessor of freshmen level composition turns his attention to the firm posteriors and other rigid appendages of the characters in his fictional world.
Summers in Provincetown, Massachusetts, provide Jacob with inspiration for his fiction. The abundance of barely clothed man flesh and daily debauchery stimulates his personal muse. When he isn’t stroking the keyboard, Jacob spends time with his daughter. They both represent a bright blue blip in an otherwise predominantly red swath in south Texas.

[…] my monthly post over at Love Bytes, I share what I believe to be the ingredients and recipe for a dream vacation. I hope to see you […]
For me, the ideal number of travellers is one (I’m a bit of an antisocial curmudgeon–or selfish, rather). Add a phrasebook, at least two previously unread books and an internet (twitter & google maps) capable cellphone. Combine with serendipitous restaurant discoveries, blend in a big dollop of museums and a guide to the local public transport. Let it all swirl about and meld together and savour at your leisure for the next…oh…few years at least.
But books are a definite must. I can’t even go to work without one in my bag, never mind that I know I won’t read any of it during the day. It’s my version of a security blanket.
I feel the same way, Kristen. A vacation isn’t a vacation without a good book! Thanks for replying!
