BLURB:

A dragon trapped by his own mistakes. An elf who never meant to become his safe place.

Dorian Marsten is a dragon shifter, a Hollywood legend, and very good at mistaking desire for love. When his long-time lover and manager marries a powerful fae prince, Dorian tells himself he’s only worried about his friend. But jealousy has sharp edges, and one reckless choice leaves Dorian trapped in his dragon form, stripped of control, pride, and everything that once defined him.

Stranded at Crofton Hall and caught in the wake of fae politics and dangerous magic, Dorian is forced to confront the truth: he can’t fix what was never his to own.

Alex Reynolds, the Dark Earl of Crofton’s secretary, is tasked with keeping a very large, very vulnerable dragon alive. Alex offers something Dorian has never truly known: quiet loyalty, steady kindness, and a bond built not on desire, but on choice.

As fae plots tighten, ancient magic stirs, and the line between protector and protected begins to blur, Dorian must decide between his human and dragon side. And Alex. Because true love isn’t about possession, or power, or even fate, but about being seen for who he really is.

A slow‑burn paranormal gay romance filled with magic, political intrigue, and the healing power of being truly seen. Interception is a story of transformation, forgiveness, and a love that grows where neither man expected it.

REVIEW:

When Dorian’s best friend and vampire fuck buddy, Robin, suddenly becomes monogamous to an arranged marriage, Dorian is suspicious and wants to ensure his friend hasn’t been unwillingly ensnared. However, his somewhat unethical actions backfire, and Dorian is stuck in his dragon form.

Interception is the fourth book in the Dark Earls series – a series that I have absolutely adored and would recommend to anyone. Interception was an emotional rollercoaster, and I love those. It made me smile and cry. And for reasons that I will attempt to explain, I also think it is the weakest of the four novels.

The story is told in the third person from the viewpoints of Dorian and Alex. Worldbuilding has developed over the series, but it was lovely to read a Crofton book from a staff perspective rather than one of the Earls.

I’ve loved Alex’s character all the way through the series, and my opinion hasn’t changed. He is beautifully written. However, it took me a while to warm up to Dorian. He is a complex, somewhat misguided dragon shifter. Once Dorian’s personality was uncovered/understood by Alex, he grew on me, and I became a fan.  That’s when, like Alex, I became protective of Dorian, and I could have metaphorically slapped a few other members of the extended cast. I had to remember plots from previous books to remind me of my love for others.

But this story didn’t flow as well as the other books. Due to the viewpoint and extended cast, some scenes were missing that I feel would have rounded out the story better, even if it extended the narrative. Kudos to the author for keeping the spotlight on Alex and Dorian. However, I feel this is one tale that would have benefited from multiple viewpoints, even if it blurred the lines of focus. I missed a more active Sebastian Hewell and some of the other A-listers that were synonymous with the previous books. Some essential scenes happened, off-page, almost as a footnote. Even if they’d been inserted as a memory (which they weren’t), or an after-event paranormal version of video playback – I wanted to be a witness. Nevertheless, I understand why the book was written the way it was written. I am very much on the fence with what could have worked better, but something didn’t gel as seamlessly as others in the series.

Interception is a slow-burning tale that begins somewhat awkwardly before it settles into a page-turner. Then it was a beautiful read, with my heart melting for Alex and Dorian before it ended a little too quickly for my taste.
