They say the best way to get over one man is to get under another. I’m not so sure about that. After I caught my last boyfriend cheating, I was ready to give up. When Jeremy’s friend, Greg Hayden, suggests a friends-with-benefits arrangement, I decide to go for it. But my feelings for him get stronger the more time we spend together and I don’t know what to do about it. When it looks like he might have a stalker, all my protective instincts are on alert. Will I lose the person I thought I could finally keep?
Greg
After an abusive relationship tore my life to shreds, I vowed I would never again give a man that kind of power over me. Tony D’Angelo challenges all my ideas about relationships. He’s kind, patient, and respectful of my boundaries. He’s protective without being overbearing. I’ve never met anyone like him. He makes me want to forget all my rules and let him into my heart. When strange things start happening to me and around me, I shrug it off at first. By the time I realize what’s going on, it might be too late.

“You love him,” Becky observed. I opened my mouth to object, but no words came out. I did love him. I knew that. I’d just been afraid to say it aloud. I swallowed hard. “I do.” “But you haven’t told him,” Ethan rightly guessed. “I haven’t,” I confessed. Becky reached across the small coffee table and smacked my arm lightly. “You should. That man looks at you like you hung the moon and stars. Don’t let him get away.” Ethan jerked a thumb in his sister’s direction. “What she said.” “I will,” I promised, even though the thought sent butterflies careening in my stomach. “But first, I want to tell you both I’m sorry for all the shitty things I said to you and all the grief I gave you for rightly leaving a horrible home life. I was terrified of being alone, and I took it out on you two.” Ethan stood and drew Becky up with him. “Get over here, big brother.” I went to them, and they pulled me into a group hug that ended with all three of us in tears. We finally sat, all wiping our eyes. “So tell me what you two have been doing for the past decade or so.” Hours later, full of joy that I finally had my brother and sister back, I said goodnight to them, knowing I would see them, not only the next day, but again and again in the future. In the bedroom, the lights were out and Tony was asleep. I undressed quietly and crawled under the blankets, snuggling as close as I could get to him. To my surprise, he rolled over and pulled me into his arms. “I guess it went well,” he said, his voice raspy with sleep. “It did. It really did.” He hummed softly. “That’s good. I’m happy for you.” “Tony?” “Yeah?” “I want to tell you something.” I took a quiet breath to soothe my nerves. “What’s that?” he asked. “I love you.” His body went still. He ran his fingers through my hair. “You do?” “I do. I think I have for a long time.” His arms tightened around me, and he tucked his face into my neck. “I love you too.” I felt dampness on my skin and let my own tears fall. I finally had the love I’d been looking for my whole life.

Evie has always been an avid reader, mostly fantasy, science fiction and, of course, romance. After raising three children into adulthood, acquiring a master’s degree, and opening a counseling practice, she figured she didn’t have enough to do, so she decided to write books. Evie lives “down the shore” in New Jersey with her husband, her youngest son, his fiancée, and her goofy Rottweiler. Every summer she complains about “the bennies” coming down and snarling up the traffic, but she’s a Jersey Girl through and through.
