Oh thank goodness! We finally get Hunter and Xavier’s story. And this one comes with more men too! So hold on to your hats (and hearts) because this is one hell of a ride!!!
When the delivery of flowers that Xavier regularly sends to Hunter comes it’s not the usual fare. There’s a box in it that contains a severed left ring finger 😳. So Hunter goes to Xavier’s office to confront his estranged husband because this is simply is not acceptable. He puts those flowers each time in their daughter’s room. Not that Xavier knows that. Heck, he has never even ever met her! And Hunter and Xavier’s relationship is complicated at best. His brother Jericho would love nothing more that kill Xavier for what he did to him and has put him through. Especially after Sebastian had been kidnapped and knowing that Xavier had been slightly involved. Not that Xavier had known that nugget when it went down. He had been trying hard for years to get back in his husband’s good graces! Yet another dark mark against him. But Hunter’s visit becomes complicated when neither man can keep their hands off the other (and have never been able to…their chemistry is way too strong). And now Miles, Xavier’s right hand man, becomes part of the equation. When they all realize that someone is trying to get back at Xavier through Hunter they are forced to work together to keep all safe. Especially now that Matthew, Olivia’s teacher, is involved after the strangest date in history. But can these men get to the bottom of this and keep everyone safe and alive?
Wow! This was quite the rollercoaster ride of epic proportions! I knew that Jericho would love nothing more than to take Xavier out of his brother Hunter’s life permanently. And that there was some kind of weird chemistry between Hunter and Xavier. I also knew that they had been married but was unsure of that status. And I questioned that kiss that Xavier gave Hunter when Sebastian and Spencer were finally rescued in “Cohesion”. I got the idea that it didn’t shock Jericho but the rest of the fabulous five were stunned for sure. Especially Quinn. Because Quinn knew what kind of guy Xavier was at that time. I also got the feeling that quite a bit of time had passed since then and Xavier and Miles had been working to clean up Xavier’s business adventures to be more legal and above board. I suspect that was more than partially because of Xavier’s desire to somehow win back his husband. Because it is totally obvious that both men have never stopped desiring the other and that Xavier is still completely in love with Hunter.
I love Aurora Crane’s polyamorous stories. She creates this bond so tight that you can’t imagine one without the others. That shines through totally here. Each man is an intricate piece of a puzzle that finally makes this work. I’m not saying that it is completed now because we are far from that scenario. In fact, we aren’t even completely at the HFN phase yet, in my opinion. There is so much more that needs to be accomplished. We need to solve the threats against Hunter and Matthew’s lives and end them once and for all. We need to work on exactly how this foursome will work together to even forge a safe and sane relationship. Or if that is even possible. We need to know what Xavier did to break Hunter’s trust and how that can be repaired. Or if it is even repairable. Because that was obviously broken badly. We need Jericho to not want to murder his brother-in-law every moment that he lays eyes on Xavier and Miles. We need to make sure Matthew is safe and truly understands what is going on around him that he is joining with. Because this naïve man is in way over his head! And we need our HEA! If that is even possible. Because this is the most unique and different foursome ever. You have sweet and innocent. You have an extremely serious touch disorder that will be difficult to navigate. You have major trust issues that will take time and a lot of hard work. And you have power issues. And then you have Xavier who is totally another can of worms!! So yes, we are a long way from this being over.
So, for obvious reasons…I CAN’T WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK IN THIS SERIES!! Because I need answers. Because I am totally hooked on these four men! I need them safe and I need them in a committed and stable relationship that is filled with love and trust! I need this book!!! Fantastic new foursome that will grab hold of you and not let go.
