BLURB:

The world isn’t ready for an omega like Lucky Darro.

LUCKY DARRO is many things an omega shouldn’t feisty, independent, a freedom fighter. He believes in the old ways, holding firm to traditions long thought barbaric and ridiculous. Just as he’s starting to get to know college heartthrob Chase Walker, Lucky finds himself in a tricky situation. Captured by a gang of traders within the illegal Omega Market, he has to make a snap save himself or protect an underage girl and her badly-beaten brother. For Lucky, it’s not even a choice…

CHASE WALKER comes from the most prominent Alpha family of the province. He should have known it wasn’t his fate to get a docile, obedient mate. But when he discovers that his mate is the freedom fighter Lucky Darro, and that he might have to compete with another alpha for his affection, Chase has to step up and reevaluate everything he ever knew about true mates.

FORD KING survived a childhood with a drug-addicted mother, and spent his formative years on the streets fighting for money, freedom and a place to belong. Protecting Omegas and his recruitment into the Omega Rescue Taskforce was always his fate. But when Lucky comes into his life, it’s clear that nothing will ever be the same again.

TOGETHER they must battle the Omega Market, the prejudices of a world not used to a three-way bond, and the growing chemistry that sparks between them. The only question isn’t whether they can survive the flames, but how hot the fire will burn.

REVIEW:

First and foremost, this story contains elements of mpreg, and while not actually having any in the story, there is a lot of detail that centers around it being a main element of the Omegas, mainly focused on anatomy and its functions. That said, I was already committed so decided to push forward.

In this world, life seems to center around Alphas and Omegas finding their bonded mates. While this typically happens with one of each, there are rare cases where 2 Alphas bond with one Omega, such as is the case here with Chase, Ford and Lucky.

Unfortunately for Omegas, they are a hot commodity and there is a dark underground market for them. Lucky and Chase are both students at college. Ford is an agent in the Omega Rescue Task Force who is undercover saving Omegas from the Market. He ends up saving Lucky and in order to do so, their bond is triggered. But, before Lucky was taken, his bond was also triggered by Chase.

There is a lot more to the bonded mates deal and with Lucky and what happens during his time at the Market involving illegal drugs, but the main focus really is on the bonded mates and everything involving that. A major factor in all of this is the Omega heat which a lot of focus is put on throughout the story. Lucky is “underage” as far as not having his first heat, so the three of them wait it out for that, although some things happen between Chase and Ford once they get on the same page with being equal Alphas in the relationship.

One of the things I really struggled with in this story were the descriptions surrounding the Omegas and their anatomy, etc. I’m not generally a fan of mpreg to begin with, but this happens often enough that it kept pulling me out of the story. Aside from that, the story doesn’t really seem to move forward nearly as much as I felt it should. There is dialog and we see what the characters are doing, but there only seems to be snippets here and there that actually advancing the story.

This does seem to be an interesting world, and I liked the idea of the Rescue Force and the Alpha (except for the rare Omegas involved) agents involved. This is only the initial book of the series, so perhaps things will flesh out more in the next few books.
