When your life is in grave danger do you call for help from the one that got away and broke your heart?
Marty is an accountant. He likes his life clean and orderly like the books he keeps for his company. But when things don’t add up and he mentions it to his boss, things suddenly get dicey. And when he realizes he’s being followed by the shady guy that showed up at his boss’s office he knows that he needs help and reaches out to the one person he knows on the Olympia Police force…his ex, Eddie. Eddie knows that when he took his chance at fame and fortune in Hollywood that Marty wasn’t going to follow him. He also knows Marty is the one that got away. So helping the man that still holds his heart is a no brainer. But this case just keeps getting bigger and bigger and more and more dangerous, especially for Marty who is the only one left standing that can identify the man who appears to now be a murderer too. Can Eddie keep Marty safe Under His Protection?
This was a very fast paced book that kept us on our toes. Eddie is determined to not only keep his Marty safe but to win back the man that he still loves. I love second chance love stories and this one had the perfect hook. Eddie protecting Marty and keeping him safe at his home gives him the opportunity to finally show Marty that he knows that losing him was his biggest mistake. A mistake that he needs to remedy and make right. Because losing Marty a second time just isn’t in the game plan. And it was obvious, despite losing Eddie years ago, Marty still had deep and loving feelings for Eddie too.
It was nice to get to see Brian and Kerry and their boys Henry and Phillip again. It is obvious that the boys love their “Uncle Eddie” and that he adores them. I always love when we get to see how a precious couple from a series are doing. Having Brian be partnered with Eddie gave us multiple opportunities to not only catch up but hear their future plans. And their life working out so well was wonderful to hear.
This was a quick read that brought me back to my beloved Pacific Northwest. It was the perfect mix of intrigue and second chances which is always a win/win for me.
