Love isn’t always easy to find. Sometimes the cost of finding the wrong love can make one reluctant to accept a true love when it comes along. Sometimes it requires Help from Beyond…
Avery Langhorn has a terrible track record when it comes to choices in men. He’s also had someone watching over him without his knowledge. Avery was born with a heart defect that wasn’t detected until he was a teen and nearly died. The kindness of a stranger’s family allows him to live his life without the possibility of an untimely death, and Avery hopes to somehow pay back the debt he owes his donor, but he’s not sure how.
There’s been a voice in his head since he woke from surgery, leading him down a path with protective advice along the way. It strikes Avery as odd that the voice doesn’t sound like anyone he’s ever met, but it’s always full of knowledge and good advice. The voice has steered Avery clear of heartbreak more than once—that is, when Avery listens to it.
When a stranger comes along to rescue him during a freak accident, the voice tells Avery the man is important to him and he should give the guy a chance. Is the voice right, or is it just Avery’s overactive imagination?
When Avery meets the owner of the voice, should he listen to it, even when it seems impossible that the voice is right?
This work of fiction is a standalone novel without a cliffhanger that ends in an HEA.
REVIEW:
Would you do anything for the spirit that you received her heart transplant for?
Avery Longhorn hasn’t had it easy. He totally sucks at boyfriend choices. He loves his roommates/best friends/co-business owners but their sexcapades were getting to be too much since their engagement. Add in that he had only been fourteen when his heart stopped on the soccer field and he was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy. By the time he was seventeen he had to have a heart transplant! And every since he woke up from that surgery he has heard a female voice in his head he didn’t recognized that is always giving him advice. And now, after a near fatal automobile accident, he not only hears the voice but sees the girl/spirit/ghost that’s heart is beating in his chest. And she wants him to help her make her family move on with their lives after seven long years of grieving. And if that includes Avery and her big brother Holden falling for each other…better yet!
I can tell you that it would have rattled me to come upon an auto/truck accident, after fleeing my parents home, because of the mirror-like accident that took his little sister’s life. And then to be weirdly attracted, almost obsessed, with the man he helped rescue. A man that it turns out has your dead sister’s heart beating in his chest. Cue the theme from twilight zone!
I did love that both men were each other’s types and seemed to fall for each other. I know that Avery had a hard time with Happy pushing so hard. It freaked him out a bit in reality but he couldn’t deny the pull. And poor Holden didn’t have a clue and had to have thought that Avery was slightly unbalanced. But how did Avery know so many facts about him and his sister and he still couldn’t grasp that Avery was actually talking to Holly/Happy’s spirit?
This was a uniquely fun romp with the afterworld and I can’t wait to get more now that EZ passed his first solo test and will be assigned more fun cases.
