BLURB:

Chase Hooper doesn’t like people, apart from his housemates and his twin brother Cash. He especially doesn’t like the hot guy who stops by Goose Run Gas in the middle of every night to interrupt his nap and tell him how terrible his coffee is.

Lee Torres is a baker, and the best and worst part of his morning is when he stops at the gas station for coffee. The coffee is awful, but the guy serving it is kind of cute, even if he’s blatantly hostile. Still, something keeps Lee coming back for more, and it’s certainly not the stale pastries.

When Chase and Lee are thrown together working at Goose Run’s newest entrepreneurial venture, it’s a chance for both of them to get what they need. For Chase, it means no more night shifts. For Lee, it means running his own bakery. They can both keep it professional, right?

Wrong.

Sparks fly, and things are getting heated in the kitchen, but if Lee thinks he’s going to be allowed past the protective walls that Chase has spent a lifetime building, he can think again. Because Chase Hooper doesn’t do feelings.

If they’re not careful, this could be a recipe for disaster.

Welcome to Goose Run, a small town full of quirky characters, big personalities, and unexpected romances. Just don’t ask about the goose.

REVIEW:

Note:  This is the third book in this series and as such has major spoilers for the previous books.

Chase is the surliest guy at Goose Run Gas.  Every morning, he and Lee get into it when Chase serves him terrible coffee and a stale pastry.  And yet, he keeps coming back.  I mean, the guy is cute at least.

Lee has had it with his boss and he’s just quit his job.  Uh, that’s not good.  His sister has just finished cancer treatment and his mom is a hairdresser and he does need a job.  Enter Bobby Merritt, mayor of Goose Run, owner of Goose Run Gas and serial entrepreneur.   HE is going to open a bakery and he hires Lee to run it.  And Chase to be the new barista, without telling Lee.  This solves many p0roblems including getting Chase off nights.  Um, fun fact.  Chase hates coffee – and has no idea how to be a barista.

On opening day, things don’t go that well for Chase.  Tyler, Lee’s former co-worker and now employee luckily DOES know coffee.  Chase is still prickly, but he hasn’t yelled at any customers, so maybe things will be ok?  Also you can cut the sexual tension with a knife.

When Lee “rescues” Chase from the walk-in, Chase kisses him and they begin hooking up.  But Lee knows that Chase is not going to accept anything unless he thinks there is no risk.  Lee isn’t sure what has happened to Chase in his life, but he knows it’s bad.  After meeting his twin brother in an unfortunate mix-up, he’s even more convinced that he’s going to have to approach anything with Chase very carefully.  But he wants to try.

I think is definitely my favorite book in this series.  First, I just love a real underdog character who has been through a lot finally getting to a place where he can accept love and this is Chase’s story for sure.  Chase and his twin had a bad start in life and they’ve made it this far because of Danny and Wilder and the quirky Bobby.  Chase is convinced that it will always bee him and Cash against the world in their own little bubble.   Of course now that he’s met Lee and he likes Lee and surprisingly Lee likes him, his world is a bit upended and he’s not sure what he’s supposed to want or what to do about it.  He wants to trust, but he’s got a lot of baggage.  I really wanted him to accept the good that was out there for him.  These two guys are so good together.  And I’m curious to see if Cash is going to get a story or not 😉  Love this weird little town and it’s inhabitants that keep things interesting 😉  Getting to see the previous couples in their journey is satisfying as well.  Such a good heartwarming series from two favorite authors who keep the humor and heart coming.  Highly recommended.
