REVIEW:
There is nothing more exciting than finding a brand-new author who have poured themselves into a book and discover how really good they are. It’s a true joy and gift. I got to experience that joy again this time with this book and author! 💝
Dean Harris is at the top of his game and he has worked very hard to get there. The electronic dance music industry is highly competitive and DJ DVLN is at the top of it all and for good reason. Not only can he mix music, he can write it, he can sing it with his amazing voice and he can choreograph and dance to it along side his talented dancers. He’s the whole shebang! His newest song needs something unique and different. When a shy member of his production team suggest a video with athletes and the the Niners since it’s preseason and they are in San Francisco. Dean loves it. He’s a huge football fan and those men in those tight uniforms do it for him. Especially the über sexy Colton Merrick, the team’s star running back. That man is a a walking gay man’s sex dream and occupies Dean’s fantasies. So when the two meet at the practice facility and shake hands it’s no surprise he felt a flicker of electricity. The video shoot goes so well that the team owner wants to use the video as the intro for each home game. But what really surprises Dean is when Colton reaches out for some help with his guitar playing. What developed is an amazing friendship of two very different men with so much in common. Now can Dean just keep his libido in check to have a great friendship develop?
Dean and Colton are more alike than anyone would guess. But the biggest part was that their interests not only aligned so well but that they each were very lacking in one area…true friendships. Poor Dean had such a hard later teen years after his poor excuse for parents literally kicked him out of their Georgia home as soon as he came out to them. He worked so hard to not be homeless and desperate. Something that he never forgot and and worked hard to not let other lgbtq+ kids suffer through. His dedication to homelessness and a safe place to live and thrive for those kids in San Francisco was a huge theme throughout the book. He also made sure that Colton understood that there was not a “type” in being gay. That, just like heterosexual men, gay men came in all different sizes, colors and how they presented. This was something that I truly admired in the book.
Colton’s struggles with his relationship with his fiancé. His struggle with his realization that Dean meant much more to him than just a friend. His fears over his career and friendships once he finally came to grips with his love for Dean were valid. He had so much to lose if he came out. But I loved that he came to the real realization of what he would lose if Dean wasn’t beside him.
There are so many great moments in this novel and they will open your eyes to so many things. Things that you might take for granted. Or never really thought about. But will now. I can’t wait for more of this series from this fantastic new author. A HUGE thumbs up for me!!!!
