What happens to a powerful man when he becomes a moving target? A hero must emerge to remove the bullseye from his back! Welcome to Washington, DC, where the power players are more intriguing than anything happening under the Capitol Dome.
Lobbyist Sean Fitzpatrick is a force on Capitol Hill, crusading for the rights of those in need of a champion. Women. Minorities. His own rainbow community. He doesn’t back down from a fight, even though sometimes his means to an end aren’t exactly ethical.
When he finds out his assistant and sometimes friend-with-benefits is shopping his dirty laundry to the highest bidder, Sean takes the matter in hand and fires the young man. A few days later, Sean’s car blows up in the garage of his office building, bringing Sean into the spotlight in a very unflattering way.
Jericho Hess served his country until an accident brought about his medical discharge. The desire to serve his country doesn’t disappear as he fights his personal demons, and when he gets a chance to be of service to someone who needs protection, he steps in at the urging of a few Lonely Heroes.
Upon meeting Sean Fitzpatrick, Jericho is attracted to the man’s no-nonsense approach to grabbing life by the balls and hanging on, devil be damned. Can Jericho, a real-life cowboy, ever adjust to the man’s sometimes caustic attitude and keep the man alive, even though Jericho would like to strangle him on occasion? Could Sean ever enjoy life on the ranch without all the trappings of his free-wheeling Washington, DC, lifestyle?
This work of fiction is approximately 75,000 words in length and doesn’t end with a cliffhanger. As always, there’s an HEA. I hope you enjoy it.
REVIEW:
I 💝 loved The Senator and have been waiting somewhat patiently for this next book since that released. I am definitely not disappointed and it was well worth the wait!
Sean Fitzpatrick is a hard-hitting lobbyist in DC. He has his thumb on the pulse of everything going on in DC. And that means everything, no matter how scandalous or questionable his means of obtaining that information is. So having his assistant out trying to sell his “dirty laundry” and getting a new job behind his back was unfortunate. Byron had been a good assistant and a WorkBuddy-with-Benefits. But his betrayal was something Sean would never nor could ever excuse. And he waited for the just right moment to confront him. Because Sean may be powerful and, at times ruthless, but he has extreme patience and knew how to make the best out of a situation. When things started to become questionable for his personal safety, after his car is blown up, Sean reached out to former US Congressman Benjamin Hoffman. Ben’s husband, Raleigh Wallis, worked for a security organization headquartered in New York, Golden Elite Associates-America, and he might know of someone for a short-term security detail. Raleigh worked fast and suddenly Sean has a very handsome former Green Barry Cowboy watching his back.
Sean was a handful for sure. Yes, he earned that ability and reputation through hard work and dedication. He also was not above questionable morals to get done what he needed. Because he knew if he didn’t then the LGBTQIA+ community he holds dear losses. And, that is something he can’t live with in the current corrupt administrative out-lash. He will not back down. And definitely not to homophobic elected official who callously stated “If they end their lives themselves, well, maybe that’s for the best.” This is why he had to fight harder. He has to because no one else is and Defenders of the Faithful know it and have a huge target on him.
Sean and Jericho worked for me on so many levels. Sean is dedicated to his work. Jericho is dedicated to his Mom and their Horse farm. Jericho also has a strong work ethic and honor. I loved how Sean messed up with Jericho and his prothesis. It made him a tiny bit vulnerable and that was what he needed to be with Jeri. Jeri knew he was strong and wouldn’t back down. But, in the end, he also learned how and why Sean’s work was so important. That it personally protects his personal community. That there are extremely hateful and homophobic people out there that want you dead just because of who you love.
I loved the Lonely Heroes Series. They introduced me to the amazing and talented author Sam E. Kraemer. And getting a chance to hear from some of those men again was a true gift. Having Hawk stop Jericho at the VA and then learn that Hawk’s brother Lawry was the one leading the AA meeting Jericho just attended was something I never expected. Then getting to see Ben and Raleigh and meet their new baby Rachel was a special treat I never saw coming. They even put Sean and Jeri up in their place after the first drive-by shooting. And having Austin (Bruno) and his husband Dominic as backup was an extra treat. I loved to see how all these men and their husbands were still as strong and in love as they were when we last got to see them 💕.
This new series is shaping up to be just as wonderful as the Lonely Heroes. I can not wait for more. I’m agreeing with FBI Special Agent Trachtenberg, that I don’t believe that Sean, nor the reporter and FBI Agent are safe yet. Marvin Thompson is a weasel and he won’t stand for what went down and how his “dirty little secret” was exposed. This might not be a cliffhanger but that is still up in the air for me. I can’t wait for the next book “The Scapegoat” to come out!!!
