I’m the problem child…
I’m the youngest foster brother. The one with the most potential.
My brothers have plans for me. Plans that involve going to college and leaving my family and job at our auto shop behind.
Plans that definitely don’t include getting involved with a big, sexy ex-con like Flynn Donovan.
He’s older than me. Bigger than me. And the man looks hard all over. But I know he’s soft inside. Soft for me. If I can just get him to admit it.
I’m adrift at Thurston College, and when Flynn offers a big, strong shoulder to lean on, I seize the lifeline.
There’s a spark between us, but Flynn resists it. I’m too young, too innocent, too much a “little brother” for him. At least, I think those are the reasons until he confesses the real one.
Flynn’s got secrets. Guilt about his past and fears about the future. Worries that make my problems look like, well, child’s play.
But I’m not a child anymore, and it’s time to step up.
I want to be strong for Flynn. To fight for the right to love him, to keep him, to care for him the way he deserves. And if I can fight for him, then maybe I can also learn to fight for myself.
Because I’ve got my own plans, and my brothers aren’t going to like them…
Problem Child is Book 4 of Foster Bro Code. Trigger warning for references to abuse, criminal activity, and death. Some violence on-page, mostly as a result of Bailey pool-hustling the wrong men.
REVIEW:
Note: This is the fourth book in this series. As such, there are major spoilers for the previous books. The couples from the previous books are supporting characters in this story. Prior reading not required but is recommended.
Bailey, the youngest Forrester brother, is off to Thurston college. He’s not sure he is meant to be there, but this brothers, especially Holden, have made sacrifices to make sure he has this opportunity. He’s struggling though. His roommate tries to get him out and about, but he’s not really loving it. He’s also got a big crush on Flynn, the newest mechanic back at his family’s garage.
Flynn is an ex-con in a program that has become a certified mechanic and is working at Forrester Brothers garage. He is attracted to Bailey but he’s just keeping his head down, doing his job and sending as much money to his younger brother Aiden who is in Med School.
When Flynn goes to visit Aiden at Thurston, he runs into Bailey. He’s surprised and so is Bailey. The next time they run into each other, Bailey is once again hustling pool in the local pool hall. He take the money of the wrong guy and gets himself into trouble. Flynn comes to his rescue and Bailey expresses his gratitude with a kiss. Flynn insists that Bailey knows what he’s done in his past and Bailey leaves.
Turns out Flynn left out a few details as to his actual crime. Bailey pulls is out of him and he knows that Flynn is not a bad man. Bailey is fine with Flynn and they embark on a rather clandestine relationship.
This is the last book in this particular series, but I’m guessing we might get glimpses of this found family and their partners in the spin-off series that are in the works. While not my favorite in this series, I still liked seeing Bailey get his own HEA. Flynn is a lovely guy who was dealt a pretty difficult hand in light. He is suffering from a lot of guilt over his past, his prison time and the responsibility he feels for his younger half-brother. He literally does everything in his power to take care of and protect those he cares for. The other Forrester brothers are there to lend a hand when needed and they have Flynn’s back as well. There are obstacles and bad actors that have to be dealt with, but in the end, Bailey and Flynn find their way forward together 🙂 Recommended.
