BLURB:

Thirteen years ago, I made a terrible mistake.

One I’ll never repeat again.

When I first met Reid, I failed to see the signs that were right in front of me. He asked me to do one thing–take him away and keep him safe.

I turned my back on him.

Now I have to live with the guilt and shame of knowing I let him down. He can’t forgive me, and that’s okay.

Because I’ll never forgive myself.

When Reid’s family comes to take him away, I have a chance to redeem myself. I can keep him safe. But the more I watch him, the more I fall for the man who doesn’t see his self-worth.

Trouble is, can either of us forget the past in favour of the future? Or did my mistake all those years ago cost me any chance with the man of my dreams?

Either way, I’m not giving up until I find out.

Evan is a heartfelt hurt/comfort, M/M shifter x human romance. The second in the Wild Edges series, these books are best enjoyed in order. Each story follows a new couple, and always ends in a HEA.

REVIEW:

Evan is a good man who has always lived on the edge of chaos. It’s just how shifter life is. He has one major regret, a child he didn’t realize was in trouble years before, when he was still working his way up the pack hierarchy. Now he has to find a way to fix it.

Reid ran from his family, an outsider from birth. He thought he was free but seeing Evan brought back painful memories and old fears.

This is a hard read. Any time child abuse is involved, it’s hard to deal with but it’s worth the pain to get to the joy.

I have read every book in this series and the storyline never stales or grows old. Lark Taylor is really fantastic at writing characters we can relate to as readers and who can’t help but draw out our empathy and compassion. This book is no different.

Evan loves his family, born and chosen but he knows that something is missing. Everyone assures him that he will fill that void eventually but he’s not sure he ever will.

Reid not only struggles with his abusive past and the fear that still holds over him, he also struggles with himself and the way his mind works. He’s not sure why he can’t stop thinking about Evan, but he can’t and it’s driving him crazy. He knows he should run but he also knows that he doesn’t really stand a chance against his insane family alone. So he stays and prays for the best all while expecting the worst.

I just wanted to gather Reid up and lock him away and keep him safe…maybe with Evan for company. He’s so sweet and I love his devotion to his chosen friends and family, especially Chester.

Of course, it’s great to see Findlay and Chester again and I’m so glad that Lark Taylor is an author who doesn’t mess with her stories with happily-ever-afters. It’s why I quit watching soap operas. I love the dynamics between the wolf shifters and how they stand for each other, even when they are driving each other crazy.

The struggle Evan is going through is heartbreaking as well. He doesn’t think he will ever forgive himself for not rescuing Reid and it is not only poisoning himself, it’s killing any chance of a relationship with Reid. Most of this story is how these two men deal with their own internal struggles while dealing with the pain and anguish the outside world is throwing at them.

I have to admit, I’m looking forward to Calan’s story, the one that Lark Taylor says is next. When I started this series…and the precursor series that started it all, I never thought that it would bring me so far and still have me hooked, but here we are.

Great characters, awesome storytelling and wonderful world building. If shifters are your thing (like they are mine) you are going to love it all.
