Jay’s 2025
For me, 2025 has been another tumultuous year. I’m still behind on my reading & had ventured off the genre for a little side trip (Dammit Donut!). But I’m trying to catch up on what I missed – and I can tell that 2025 was another banner year for books. I’ll be looking through the rest of the Best of posts to get more recommendations.
As I’ve done for the last few years, I’d like to give a different perspective on 2025. Since I write the New Releases post every Monday, I’ve gathered a lot of data and it gives an interesting perspective on the year. I don’t like to admit it in public, but I kind of like stats.
- So Many Books: There were over 2,200 new books released in 2025 from over 1,000 different authors writing a combined 500,000 pages
- We Like to Know What’s Next: Over 80% of the books were part of a series
- Power in the Author’s Hands: 79% were self-published (up from last year)
- Prolific Writer: One author again reigned supreme for releasing the most books in 2025 – 23 herself & co-authoring another 19!
- More Prolific Writers: There were 7 authors that released 10+ books in 2025
- We Like to Read: The biggest day for new releases was in February (the 28th at 22 books) but December had the most overall releases (235) – we love our holiday books. Last year November had the biggest day.
There was a lot to read in 2025. With the numbers above, I’m hoping you feel better since now you know your TBR list isn’t too big, or maybe you feel challenged to read more books – could you possibly read this much? Did anyone get close to hitting that number of books read?
