His bite marked me. His kiss ruined me. His return damned me.
LORENZO
I was built to kill—flawless, heartless, and loyal only to the man who made me. Now he’s my next target.
When a rare Judas Coin forces me to hunt Dionysus, I need his Rafael. A fallen priest I marked with my teeth years ago.
I don’t need a partner. I don’t need a conscience. But I’m stuck with both. And every moment we spend together reminds me what it feels like to want something I was never meant to have.
RAFAEL
I was damned the moment he touched me.
Now he’s back with blood on his hands and a contract on my father’s head.
I should run. Pray. Turn him in.
Instead, I’m hiding him in church basements, watching him bleed for me. Kill for me.
Lorenzo is temptation wrapped in violence, a sinner sculpted in scars.
And the more I fall, the further I drift from the God I once served.
If redemption is still possible, I’ll find it in him—or burn beside him trying.
GODLESS is a dark, high-heat MM romance about assassins, fallen priests, and what happens when the devil you fear becomes the only one who makes you feel alive.
REVIEW:
This story continues where the previous on left off, which you absolutely have to read to understand this world. Things have shifted a bit after what happened previously with Luka and Vincent, but it was due to the help from Lorenzo that all that was able to happen. I fell a little in love with Lorenzo when we met him even though it was fairly brief. I just felt he was a special character that was going to have a good story to learn. He is a Ferryman, like Luka was, who was basically a victim from the start. He was trafficked and then “saved” by Dionysus who then groomed and trained him into the killer he is today. He comes face to face with Rafael, who was Dionysus’ son and a similar age when Lorenzo came into the picture. He has the scar to prove it, too.
Rafael, in the meantime, was a pawn of the church, raised to devote his life to the religion until things came crashing down when Lorenzo comes back into his life. Everything he thought he knew has changed when he finds out he has been an unwilling pawn involved in child trafficking.
There is a lot going on in this book with the Patheon and the Church, who have always been at odds, now seeming to be working together. Lorenzo is given the coin to kill the head of the church Rafael serves due to his facilitating of the child trafficking. In doing so, he gains another coin to take out Dionysus, the man who essentially raised him. He is basically given no choice but to carry out these contracts.
Suffice to say, things get a bit twisty and turny with who is behind everything. From book 1, we have Luka still needing to get to the bottom of who is behind certain events, one of whom is Constantine who we learn is basically amassing power and is the one behind the Patheon and the Church working together. He is hell-bent on taking out Lorenzo (and Rafael, although he is merely innocent collateral in the scheme of things). Likewise, Lorenzo is determined to survive it all and save more children, etc. When you don’t bit the head of the serpent, the limbs will just grow back. That is to say that Zeus is still the unknown man behind the curtain who remains at large and in charge, so the mystery continues, although we have gotten a good number of questions answered in this installment.
Thankfully, they have some help along the way with Diego and Jasper and even Judge Rhadamanthys. It isn’t easy though, and these guys suffer quite a bit in their quest to make it out alive at the end. Things get pretty exciting as the story progresses, but everything wraps ups, but we have moved the chains a bit down the field. Next up appears to be Diego and Jasper (and Eight, one of the saved kids who appears to be a bit more advanced in her training). Not only do Diego and Jasper seem to have some interesting stories of their own, but there looks to be a lot more of this story to play out, and I’m excited to see it happen.
