Second-grade teacher Dade Saracina has had all of the military life he could possibly want. He grew up with an ambitious father who moved them all over the world, and now he just wants to put down roots. So the last thing he wants or expects is a handsome, kind, and attention-drawing army major to come to his rescue.
Major Clifton Rogers loves a challenge, and he’s been curious about the quiet man who lives near him. Seeing trouble, he jumps into action, and damn near sinks into Dade’s eyes when they meet his. The attraction between them seems undeniable, but Dade keeps him at arm’s length, and once Cliff meets his father, the general, he understands why.
As much as Dade resists, Cliff gets past his defenses and works his way into his life and heart. But Dade’s father has definite ideas about what his son should be doing, and he isn’t the kind of person who likes to lose or takes no for an answer. Cliff and Dade are going to need to be certain of what they want in order to stave off the general’s assault on their potential happy ending.
REVIEW:
I have discovered that not only do I really enjoy Andrew Grey’s books but really want to go visit the wonderful town of Carlisle.
Dade is safe and alive thanks to the heroic efforts of the hot military man that pulled him from his smoke filled apartment complex after he collapsed from smoke inhalation and passed out. But there is one thing he does not do. He doesn’t date military personnel. He knows first-hand the military life that he lived with his father, the general. So, when Cliff wants to pursue a chance at dating Dade, it’s a mental struggle for Dade. Dade knows how military life is and doesn’t want his life uprooted non-stop like his youth. However, Cliff is not only wearing Dade’s defenses down. He’s actually demonstrating, through his actions, that not all military men are like Dade’s father “The General”. That they allow their loved ones to make their own decisions and don’t order them around like they are their troops.
This was a sweet novella with all the feels and a lot of family drama. I loved that Cliff was able to worm his way into Dade’s heart through his actions. He demonstrated that not all military leaders acted like Dade’s father. And watching Dade finally stand up to his father and demand what was his right to a job and life he desired and who he loved was wonderful. His presence and constant support have given Dade the courage and fight to finally stand up to his meddling/controlling father. That he was his son not one of his troops he had commanded. And I loved the epilogue. It brought them full circle in their love and relationship. And it was the perfect ending.
A short, sweet novella set in Andrew Grey’s Carlisle Universe.
