Ichabod Miller Johns needs a cowboy.

When his kids inherit their grandfather’s ranch, Ichabod moves them lock, stock, barrel to Western Colorado, leaving the cityscape of Denver behind. Despite this being his deceased husband’s family ranch, he knows he has to take this chance to get his teenager away from the bad stuff he’s involved in and give himself some breathing space to work at his hardcore pottery business. It can’t hurt the other two kids either. Except that he’s now living on a run-down ranch that no cowboy in the area will touch with a ten-foot pole.

When he calls Cowboy Wanted, he ends up with Ellis McIntyre. Ellis has worked some major ranches and has ridden the rodeo, but he has an ulterior motive when he comes to Ichabod’s place. Aside from needing the job, his half-brother Rick has asked him to look into whether or not Ichabod would be willing to sell the ranch, since Rick feels like he should have inherited it from his step-father.

As Ellis gets to know Ichabod and his kids, though, one thing becomes clear to him. This family needs this ranch, and he intends to help them keep it. Can he convince Ichabod he means no harm, and that he has no designs on the ranch for his half-brother? And can Ichabod open up and trust someone else in his life after so much loss?

REVIEW:

I have loved this entire series and am always looking forward to the next call to Kody and where he will place the next needed cowboy when a rancher calls in for help at Cowboy Wanted. It’s been a diverse and entertaining group hired so far and this book did not disappoint!

Ichabod Miller-Johns is doing everything in his power to make sure his children are loved and well taken care of. And the fact that he has been doing this all on his own for the last almost 4 years since his husband Chris Johns lost his lifetime battle with leukemia. Heck, Chris died before their last little one, Chrissy, was even born with their surrogate. And if that that meant taking their 4 children, the boys, Zane and Michael that Chris had before they met, and their precious young girls, Allie and Chrissy, to live on the ranch that the children inherited when Chris’s dad, Victor Johns, recently passed after a bout of cancer. Victor may have been a complicated and sometimes gruff man but he loved those four grandkids with all his heart and left it all to them in a trust. So, when Zane starts getting in with the wrong crowd in Denver, Ichabod loads up their family and moves them all to the ranch out in the country near Aspen and Snowmass. But Ichabod is an artist, well potter to be exact, and knows nothing about ranching and he needs help. After a six month ad finally produces a qualified and experienced cowboy, Ellis McIntyre, to come help things are looking up. But Ellis has a family secret. He may not be directly related to the Johns family but his half brother Rick thinks he deserves his ex-step father’s estate and will stop at nothing to get his hands on that ranch and the money it’s worth to developers.

Rick is a scumbag! He’s a user and doesn’t care who winds up in the ditch with his path to riches. Whether he deserves something or not, he wants it and will do anything to get it. Thankfully, Ellis saw through his half-brother and his scheming  So, between him and his dad Joe, they put him in his place. But the damage and havoc he created in the process was hurtful and difficult.

I loved that Ellis fit in right away and that he wasn’t the spy I feared when the book began. Ellis and Ichabod were a perfect fit. And the kids loved Ellis. Well, Zane finally came around but that was more all the changes and drama a teenager who loses his father goes through. I also loved that they all melded into the local community so well.

I am loving these stories and are looking forward to where the next one takes me. Because this story was a true keeper with all the warm and fuzzy feelings I expect in a book.  💕
