Getting stranded in the freezing wilderness with my archenemy wasn’t on today’s to-do list. But somehow, that’s where I’ve ended up.
Harry Matheson, my political rival, has always been smarmy, arrogant, and entitled. It figures that even this plane crash has barely ruffled his well-coiffed hair.
It’s all fine, though, because our pilot has gone to call for help and rescue should be imminent.
Fast forward a few frigid hours…
Umm…maybe it’s not so fine because it appears our pilot is part of an international terrorist group intent on kidnapping us.
Now Harry and I have to flee through the wilderness—together.
Unfortunately, being adept at political debates and parliamentary procedures doesn’t exactly prepare you for the basics of finding food, keeping warm, and evading the local wildlife while playing high-stakes hide-and-seek with armed terrorists.
The only way Harry and I have any hope of surviving is to stick together.
The problem is the line separating hate and love has begun to blur, and the last thing I need is to fall for my enemy.
The Unlikely Pair is an enemies-to-lovers romance featuring a romp through the political wilderness where hearts, quite literally, go off the beaten path.
REVIEW:
Just like the first book in this series, I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I love enemies-to-lovers trope and this is a a really good example of when this is very well done. Harry and Toby are total opposites and their banter is just perfection. They dislike each other, but are put in a position where they are forced to work together to survive. Needless to say they aren’t exactly happy about it. But their anger turns to passion as they are fleeing their enemies. I for one am a big fan of hate sex turning to something else 🙂
There is plenty of huddling together for warmth, action and working together begrudgingly to save each other and themselves. It’s truly a rollercoaster ride through the wilderness with plenty of tension and suspense. I enjoyed their slow burn relationship and the fact that they were able to figure out how to work together despite their political differences (not sure how realistic that is, but it works here). I ended up really likely both MCs and rooting for them to get it together.
This is a really fun romance. It’s a long story and it covers a lot of territory that really shows the growth of the characters and their relationship which I thought was believable for the most part (even if there are some OTT moments during their time on the run). I enjoyed the last part of the book immensely 🙂 Highly recommended!
This is the only the second audiobook from Jax Calder that I’ve listened to – the other being the first book in this series. Once again, Gary Furlong does the honors here performing this story. If you follow Gary on SM, you will know that he has a stellar sense of humor. The snark and banter are definitely on point here. Add to that the crazy situation that the MCs find themselves in and the obstacles they have to overcome together, it’s lot of action and danger and suspense. Mr. Furlong is a favorite narrator for a reason. He truly brings heart and humor into his performances that just raise the enjoyment factor of a good story to another level. Bravo!
