Hank’s world is all routines and exotic animals—until a city boy shows up with too many ideas and zero goat sense.
Hank
My life is quiet, steady, and exactly how I like it. I run an exotic animal ranch on the edge of Comfort, Texas, mind my own business, and keep my heart tucked away where it can’t cause trouble. I’ve never wanted to take care of anyone—and I’ve been fine with that. Relationships can wait. Maybe forever. Then Jasper Greer shows up in a too-loud car with too-bright energy and a head full of plans. He’s a walking complication… and I can’t seem to stop thinking about him.
Jasper
I came to Comfort to turn my third cousin twice-removed’s house into a queer-friendly B&B and prove I can follow through on something that actually matters. I’ve always been about the good time, but Hank? The second I meet him, I know. He’s my Daddy—even if he doesn’t see it yet. And just because I’m a boy doesn’t mean I’m any good at letting someone take care of me. But with Hank? I want to try.
A low-angst Daddy/boy MM romance set on a Texas ranch with small-town charm, found family, and a boy who knows exactly who his Daddy is.
REVIEW:
This is the story of Jasper, a cute, sassy, Little. He has just inherited a house from a distant relative, that he has only ever met online. With her blessing he is going to turn into a bed and breakfast. He is the youngest of four boys, all of whom are incredibly successful in their careers, well all except him. He knows his Dad loves him but at the same time thinks Jasper is a bit incapable as he has not been very successful on the career front.
“I mean, can you really be a balloon artist if you can’t make a dog?”
Kerry Kilpatrick. Finding-Home-in-Comfort ARCGeneric (Kindle Location 433). Kindle Edition.
The soon to be B&B is next door to a ranch and when Jasper’s ladies, Dolly, Tamara, Loretta and Reba escape through the fence to the adjoining pasture he comes face to face with the grumpy ranch owner Hank.
Hank inherited the family ranch from his Dad and enjoys his work, looking after exotic and endangered herds of animals for labs and universaties. It means he only has to have limited interaction with people during his working hours. But there is something about Jasper that makes Hank want to spend a lot more time with him.
One of the things I enjoyed about this book is there were lots of contrasts throughout it. Not just the obvious ones, city boy/ rancher, sassy/ stoic either. Hank is successful and stable in his life whereas Jasper is constantly trying to find his footing. Jasper has known he is a Little for a long while , whereas Hank has never considered being a Daddy before.
Both Hanks parents are still alive but really aren’t interested in being in his life. As soon as Hank said he wanted to take over the ranch they took off to be beach bums. They are happy for Faust and Bert, an older gay couple and great side characters to be his pseudo parents. Whereas Jasper only has his Dad and brothers, but they are all much more involved in each other lives, with 2 of his brothers following their Dad into medicine. His family really care about each other.
I always enjoy Kerry’s writing style, and I love her Daddy/Little books. There is such a feeling of comfort in the Daddy/ Little scenes that it makes the reader feel comforted too. The name of this book was really appropriate.
This book is a stand-alone novel it does have a few Easter eggs such as mentioning Almstead Island which is a destination in her other series. I can definitely see the opportunity to turn this into a series featuring Jasper’s brothers.
