Series Tour incl New Release incl Interview & Excerpt: Reni Stankova – The Heaven Trilogy

SERIES TOUR and NEW RELEASE

#1. Tell us a little about yourself.

I’m a Bulgarian bilingual author. I write books in Bulgarian and English. My genres are epic fantasy with a gay power couple and historical fiction from a female point of view. I live in Bulgaria and enjoy spending time in the Bulgarian mountains, writing and hiking.

#2. Do you have a favorite quote (either from your own books or one’s you’ve read)?

“Wealth is not measured in money, Dante. It’s measured in connections.”

Everything money-related, my prince character says, turns into my favorite quote. He is both a capitalist and a socialist. He is one big contradiction.

#3. Did you always want to be a writer?

My passion for writing awoke when I was 13 years old. Do you know that old tradition when you give a newborn baby a tray with objects on it, and whatever object the baby chooses, this will be their career? I chose a pen. Being a writer might have been ordained, lol.

#4. Give us a little insight into your main characters. Who are they?

Raphael is an angel prince who wishes to erase the unjust social system in the Kingdom of Heaven, and throughout his entire life, he fights for demon rights. He is a social justice warrior and a thorn in his traditional royal family’s side.

Dante is a demon who was raised on the streets of the capital’s ghetto. Through his suffering, we witness the discrimination against the demon race in the Kingdom of Heaven.

When Raphael and Dante meet one fateful night, they start a dangerous journey of making Heaven into a better place, by weeding out the bad actors in the government one by one.

#5. Will we be seeing these characters again? Is this book part of a series?

Raphael and Dante’s story unfolds in three books:

  1. The Enemy of Heaven
  2. The Secrets of Heaven
  3. The Children of Heaven

The third and final book is currently in preorder and will be released on November 1, 2025. With this, the story of Raphael and Dante will be complete.

#6. What are your ambitions for your writing career?

Like every other author, I’m hoping in the following years to start making a decent income from my writing so I can leave my corporate office job and focus entirely on my books. Several other ideas are brewing in my head, and it will be amazing if I’m allowed to devote my entire time to creating new stories for you.

#7. What does your writing process look like?

  1. Idea – don’t control it, it just happens.
  2. Idea dumping – put everything on paper.
  3. Outline – structure everything by chapter.
  4. First draft – write low-quality from beginning to end. Finish the story.
  5. Second draft – editing, the longest and most difficult stage, fix plot holes.
  6. Third draft – cosmetic corrections.
  7. Beta readers – give the manuscript to a few people and await feedback.
  8. Fourth draft – apply feedback.
  9. Beta readers again – give the manuscript to several other people for feedback.
  10. Fifth draft – apply feedback.
  11. Pro editing – finally publication process starts.

This is my fourth book, and it’s always the same.

#8. What’s your favorite part of writing?

The beta readers. I love feedback from people. This is where I get really into the psyche of my characters and see them from different points of view. I often start imagining my characters in alternate situations and decide on their reactions. The edit that follows beta readers’ feedback is always the most inspired.

#9. Why did you choose to write LGBT fantasy fiction?

I got introduced to gay relationships in comics and fanfiction as soon as my parents included the internet in our house bills. It was inevitable. I knew I would eventually write a gay love story. The Heaven Trilogy is much more fantasy than romance, but the love story between Raphael and Dante is hands-down the most wholesome and developed romantic relationship I’ve ever written.

#10. Give the readers a brief summary of your latest book or WIP. What genre does it fall in?

My next project will be a standalone historical fiction with a sapphic couple, set in 7th-century Bulgaria. I’m going back to my historical roots, and I will be exploring a lesbian romantic relationship for the first time. Wish me luck!

Blurb

Michael Azelys has awakened a long-forgotten power, and for the first time in a thousand years, angels, demons, and virtues clash in a brutal uprising, reminiscent of the Great War.

Determined to stop his brother, Raphael becomes the key to ending the centuries-long oppression of demonkind. He will return free will to the demons, or die trying.

Far away, Dante braves the desolate Impact Land in search of other awakened demons like himself. What he discovers exceeds his wildest hopes. But will he return in time, with an army strong enough to stop Michael Azelys, and save his loved ones?

As Heaven crumbles and distance tests their bond, Raphael and Dante must face their greatest fears and decide what they’re willing to sacrifice.

Will they survive long enough to meet each other again?

Excerpt From Book #1: The Enemy of Heaven

Without saying a word, Samuel Mitrigard sunk the knife deep into Dante’s side. Piercing pain ignited his senses and weakness spread through his body. He gritted his teeth and glared at the bastard, not giving him the satisfaction of hearing his anguish. Samuel pulled the blade out without even twisting it to finish the job. He was playing.

“Drop him,” he ordered, ever so casually.

The arms pulled away and Dante fell face-first into the dirt. So, this was the end. Dante could never imagine his death, even though he had many close brushes. There were many things he hadn’t done in his life, but at least he took solace in knowing that Peter and Dianna were safe.

Samuel Mitrigard grabbed a fistful of hair and pulled Dante’s head. The edge of an impeccably clean sword lowered to his exposed throat.

“Halt!”

The guardian angels froze and gawked as a hooded figure appeared. Dante could swear he saw this hooded figure, but his vision was blurring quickly. The man walked closer and removed his hood, exposing a blond head and blue angel eyes.

“Don’t kill this demon! I order you to release him in the name of Raphael Azelys, Third Prince of Heaven!”

What did he say? Dante couldn’t trust his ears, or any of his other senses at this moment. A royal heir could not be in the ghetto. It made no sense. Though the guardians were suddenly standing to attention. Everyone but Samuel Mitrigard still held his prey by the hair, his sword still ready to slice.

“Your Highness, I don’t know why you’re here alone, but this is not the place for royalty.”

“Please, guardian Samuel, tell me exactly where my place is.”

Dante felt the body behind him tense. The soles of ridiculously expensive boots stepped close enough for him to smell the leather.

“Remove your weapon,” demanded the prince.

His voice was so calm, as though an owner was asking his dog to drop its favorite toy. The guardians were looking at each other, clueless as to what to do. Samuel Mitrigard pressed the blade against Dante’s throat, enough to break the skin, but no further. He simply did not want to let go, not even when his sovereign demanded it.

“Your Highness, this is a convicted murderer. He killed a guardian on duty—”

“Any demon’s crimes are erased should they become an honorary angel,” the prince interrupted. “I’m here to make him into one.”

“What?”

“Give him to me, guardian Samuel.”

The guardian tugged on Dante’s hair—one last act of defiance before he reluctantly let him go. Dante’s face planted back into the dirt, but the prince caught him in time.

His vision was blurry, but he could see him. His Royal Highness Raphael Azelys was kneeling before him, supporting his chin in his palm, enough so they could establish eye contact.

“From now on, you’re mine,” he said, and the world sank into darkness.
