A ritual decades ago leads Beau to the one person he never expected to meet: his fated mate.
Detective Beau Kirkland has to work directly with the local vampire house to find a murderer, but that’s the easy part. The difficult part? His attraction to Garrett Dawson’s, one of House Saridan’s top hunters.
Garrett Dawson’s methods are brutal but very effective, even for a vampire. When a mortal detective begins working with House Saridan, Garrett finds himself unable to ignore the attraction between them.

“I can’t keep doing this,” I muttered, resting my head in my hands. “I can’t.”
“Garrett?”
I nodded but didn’t look up. “Yes. I had to take another pill right after the meeting. One has always been enough, but not since he sauntered into my life.”
“He’s your mate,” Zach said. “It makes sense that the suppressant isn’t working right. They’re good for regulating heats and preventing pregnancy, but not with your true mate.”
“I know.” I blew out a breath and finally lifted my head. “Zach… every time I see him, it gets more difficult to not react. I could fucking smell him earlier, and let’s just say that I’m very glad I had a change of clothes in my locker.”
Zach reached over and ran his fingers through my hair. It was a move many alphas did to calm omegas. A split second later, a threatening growl filled the office. Zach snatched his hand back, and we both nearly jumped out of our skins.
“I… uh… I’ll be back.” He shot out of his chair and made it past the vampire looming in the doorway without getting eviscerated.
I sighed. “Garrett –”
In just a few long strides, he was there, towering over me, those gray eyes the color of storm clouds. Then I was on my feet and gasping into a kiss that burned me from the inside out. Garrett’s arm felt like a steel vise around my waist, and the other hand was gripping the back of my head to hold me in place. His tongue swept through my mouth, and the hardness pressing against my own made me fucking dizzy.
“Lunch break,” he growled. “Now.”
I had absolutely no hope of arguing. Hell, I didn’t really want to. He refused to let go of me and steered me out of the office. I caught Donaldson’s shocked gaze and motioned toward the tall vamp practically dragging me out of the station.
As soon as we were outside by his car, Garrett opened the passenger door. I got in without a word, and he shut it before walking around to the other side. The tension was almost too much as he drove to what I assumed was his place. It was in an older, slightly run-down suburb, one I knew well from patrols. He pulled into the garage and shut off the car as the door slid down.
He didn’t say anything, just got out, came around to my side, and opened the car door. I stood and followed him into the house, hand clasped firmly in his. He tossed his keys onto a table by the couch and kept going, pulling me down the hall toward what I figured was his bedroom. He flicked on the light and shut the door. Then he pinned me to it and kissed me hard.
