BLURB:

Camden Crawford knows how to take a hit.

As the thirtysomething captain of the Exeter Seagulls, he’s built a career on strength, silence, and shielding his emotions as ruthlessly as he does his teammates. But when an injury rocks his team—and a series of frustrating media storms threaten to unravel his legacy—Cam finds himself one mistake away from losing everything he’s worked for. The last thing he needs is a distraction.

Enter Brent Parks: sunshine in tattooed skin, newly settled in Exeter, and a little too perceptive for Cam’s comfort.

Brent came to England chasing purpose. What he didn’t expect was a brooding rugby player with eyes like winter and walls like stone. But the chemistry? Immediate. Irresistible. And very, very mutual. Brent isn’t afraid to get under Camden’s skin—and he’s definitely not afraid to stay there.

When a one-time tattoo consult turns into stolen kisses, slow mornings, and a summer of something that feels a lot like more, both men are forced to face the truth: Falling for each other wasn’t in the game plan—and neither is what happens when the spotlight turns on their relationship.

With mounting pressure, cross-continental tours, and past insecurities clawing their way to the surface, Camden has to decide if love is a risk he’s finally ready to take. And Brent? He’s ready to prove that he’s not just a distraction—he’s the reason to stay.

A swoony, slow-burn MM sports romance full of banter, bruises, and unexpected tenderness. Featuring: grumpy/sunshine vibes, emotional intimacy, found family, a meddling little brother, and the hottest “oops, I sent you a sex tape by accident” moment in romance.

REVIEW:

When Camden Crawford, Captain of the Exeter Seagulls, tighthead prop/anchor of the scrum, and gruffest player around has to meet his new tattoo artist all bets are off. Tank is abandoning him to move to Canada and he doesn’t trust anyone new. Not after he was sold out by someone he thought he could trust. But trust is extremely hard earned any more. When Tank introduces him to Brent Parks, the gorgeous tatted up artist with that lip ring, Cam is in big trouble. Brent is a bit too perspective and sunshiny. Yep, big time trouble!

I loved how observant Brent was. Being a tattoo artist has taught him how to read people. And his newest client, Camden, was so completely closed off with a fortress of a castle wall surrounding him. But Brett could see glimpses of who Cam was and knew that slow and steady was the only way to go. And that man rarely showed a ruffled feather. Especially when he was with Cam. He allowed Cam to just be and took the stress of all of his life off his shoulders when they were hidden away at home. Something that Cam desperately needed. You can’t be everything for everybody around you if you can never decompress and just feel! Love was inevitable when you learn to trust each other at this level. And Brett showed time after time that he understood why Cam was that way and that he could  be trusted. I loved that. His patience and caring nature. He saw!

I have never read about nor seen Rugby before. I had originally thought it was related to British football that we call soccer in the United States. But this game seems to be more like an extreme version of football with no protective gear!!!. And it sounds very physical. How Camden kept going and dominating those matches was fascinating. I admit that I watched a couple videos about the scrum and its brute force to the maximum.

Side note: The author seems to have referred to three different people as Tank at different points in the story. I know for sure the first Tank was the former owner of the Tattoo Shop that Brett was buying. Next there appears to be another Tank that still works at the shop after the other Tank went to Canada. Then I believe one of Brent’s twin brothers he said is Tank too. It was only in the first half of the book and then no mention of Tank again. I’m believing the twins names are Calvin and Tony so don’t know why Brent said it was Tank blowing up the family chat about the Fourth of July. I believe that they are name typos. But it was super confusing at times.

This delightful series is based around a group chat of international queer athletes that did a photoshoot and then started a chat group to keep in touch. Cam was one of those athletes and Cosmo is also a member and Brent’s youngest brother, a college hockey star with unlimited energy and non stop chatting. I really want his book now!
