BLURB:

Two people walk into his office and change everything.

Greg Lampeter hung out a shingle after years at a large law firm and is beginning to have some success. When a new client walks through his door, he’s intrigued by the case and the cause it represents and agrees to take it on principal. What he doesn’t expect is the man with him to capture his attention so completely.

Assistant swimming coach Mark Baker only came to the appointment as moral support for his friend, Steven. He doesn’t expect the lawyer to be so understanding and supportive, and he certainly doesn’t expect the spark of attraction that pulls at him almost from the moment they shake hands.

Both men are determined to remain professional for Steven’s sake, for the help he needs in dealing with the college and a serious issue with one of the assistant Lacrosse coaches. As facts come to light, it’s clear that Greg is going to have to walk a close line to ensure that Steven gets the justice he deserves, and to protect Mark and their budding relationship from becoming collateral damage.

REVIEW:

Andrew Grey is an amazing author that doesn’t hold back from difficult topics that plague the news. This particular book deals with a subject that is very much in the news…an assistant coach, this time at the college level, sexually assaulting his student athletes on his lacrosse team.

Greg Lampeter has started his own law practice after years working for a large law firm. When a new client, Steven Strickler (a college lacrosse player), walks in for his appointment, he has his friend Mark Baker (his college’s assistant swim coach he confided in) with him for moral support. Mark is grateful for how understanding and supportive of his friend’s delicate situation the lawyer is. And this is a situation Greg is ready to fight. He hates the injustice of what has been done to young Steven and it’s sounding like Steven may not be the only victim of his sleazy assistant coach. What was unexpected or anticipated was the sparks that flared between Greg and Mark. But how can they deny what is happening and keep it from hurting the case or Mark’s career as they move forward. They have to make sure Steven gets justice for his bravery coming forward and they rid the college of a sexual predator.

I enjoyed watching this case unfold and how they laid a trap to snare Coach Bates. I also enjoyed watching both men falling for each other and how it was positively impacting their personal lives. Mark got Greg to find joy in life outside his demanding law practice. Something that his amazing paralegal Angie delighted in and had been pushing for quite awhile!

I really enjoyed having Mark actually introduce Greg to Greg’s own town that he lived in but never took time to explore. His “swim date” was a new approach to getting someone you’re interested in to go out with you. And having the flamboyant Ashley, Mark’s best friend, try to out argue with the attorney was delightfully fun. I hope we get Ashley’s story eventually.

But it was the growth in Steven that I truly admired. He came in to Greg’s office somewhat timid and fearful. But he became a crusader for all his fellow student athletes to not have to put up with and endure abuse from a coach that held power over his game play and scholarship. And when he finally took ownership he was freaking amazing and unstoppable!

I am looking forward to more of this series. Andrew Grey has written so many wonderful books about his hometown of Carlisle and I am eager to visit it when I finally get to go to Pennsylvania. Great start to another wonderful series by the talented Andrew Grey!
