What happens at the swimming hole, stays at the swimming hole…
When Adler arrives at Second Chance Ranch, I know he’s trouble. Adler gets under my skin like no
one else and threatens my quiet, orderly, ranch foreman life.
In fact, my body’s reaction to his presence is something of a surprise. When I have the chance to
explore the chemistry between us while secretly skinny dipping, I go for it because I know all too
well that city slickers never stay long.
Except Adler comes back…
And I’m tasked with training him to be a ranch hand. No matter how tempting Adler’s easy smiles
are, I can’t risk a repeat encounter for several
I’m his boss.
I hate gossip, especially when I’m the subject.
And doing my job right will always be my top priority.
Adler challenges all of that with chaos, rescue dogs, and an attraction that refuses to quit. As the
weeks pass, our connection deepens into a secret fling. My rodeo days taught me how to handle a
rough ride, but Adler has me falling fast.
Landing in the dirt is going to hurt, but I can’t bring myself to end things. Alder’s everything I never
knew I wanted, but he won’t be content with staying in the shadows forever. Can I be the cowboy he
needs and deserves before he’s gone for good?
Keep You Safe is book two in beloved author Annabeth Albert’s small-town Colorado cowboy romance
series with Yellowstone meets Schitt’s Creek vibes. This return to the ranch features a stoic foreman
and a younger city slicker turned ranch hand. Grumpy/sunshine, fish out of water, age gap with
mature main characters, reluctant coworkers, sensual exploration, hurt/comfort, found family, and
big feels with a standalone HEA guaranteed!
REVIEW:
Note: this is the second book in this series. While technically it can be read as a standalone, I think the first book sets a lot of context with the ranch and Adler and Grayson.
Adler, a former hotel manager/concierge and friend of Maverick, one of the owners of Loveless ranch. The ranch needs a new avenue of cashflow and Maverick and Adler brainstorm a ranch experience. In other words, turn part of the ranch into a dude ranch with paying customers. He’s ready for a fresh start after sort of blowing up his life in California and getting sober. Oh and while on a visit to the ranch, he and the foreman have an “encounter” skinny-dipping at the ranch pond.
Grayson, the foreman is none too keen on the idea. He’s got a plan to make Adler’s life as miserable as possible while he stays in the bunkhouse and works as a hand to try to determine what kind of an experience to offer. Oh, and he is NOT going to give into the spark between them. Adler is the first man he’s ever done anything with which also has him thrown off. Despite giving Adler the worst jobs, he refuses to budge and Adler exceeds expectations. But he’s still not going to give in to Adler’s flirting. So Adler decides to start slacking off. That gets Adler the in he needs to convince Grayson to give in when everyone else is off the ranch 😉
Turns out that despite their backgrounds, these two have a lot more in common than meets the eye. Their age gap isn’t as big as Grayson things. Adler’s a lot more competent than he appears. But Grayson is determined to not get involved with anyone and certainly not anyone on the ranch. Adler is not to be deterred though 😉
Oh I loved these two! Gray is so prickly. Adler is so determined. Took a while for Gray to see that what he needs is right in front of him 🙂 I loved the push/pull and the slow build of their relationship. Their chemistry is off the charts. Definitely shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover with either of these two 😉 I’m really enjoying this series and I can’t wait for the next book.
