Noah
I need a fresh start, and Foggy Basin, California, is the perfect place to begin my new life. The accepting small town is such a contrast to the large town I came from. Making a success of my dog-training business—Tricks, Tips, and Backflips—is important to me, and I totally lucked out when my straight best friend, Christian, decided to move with me. He makes my life easier. I just hope he’ll be as happy here as I am.
Christian
Following my best friend to Foggy Basin was a no-brainer. I’ve been in love with him since we were five years old. Problem is, I’ve never had the guts to say so, and while he’s out and proud, I’m still in the closet. Somehow, I need to find the courage to make a move before he finds someone else in this gay-friendly town, but Noah thinks I’m straight, and I’m not sure what he’ll do when I tell him that’s not exactly true.
REVIEW:
I really enjoyed visiting Foggy Basin last year and was so excited to go back again. And I’m so glad that I got to go with Author Gabbi Grey and meet Noah and Christian! 💕
Noah Gainey has the worst luck with choosing boyfriends and that cheating Leroy, that he was convinced he loved and planned to marry, was the last straw. When his best friend Christian Carter (of one of their town’s leading families) asks, after seeing the photographic evidence of Noah’s now ex’s infidelity, “Look, if you could do anything, go anywhere, what would you do?” Noah immediately and without reservations stated “I’d move to Foggy Basin in California and start a dog-training business.” So that’s what they did. They quit their jobs and headed out the next day to the quaint and friendly small town that Noah read about in a brochure. Because Christian would do anything for Noah. What Noah never knew was that Christian was actually gay and had been in love with his best friend for the last 13 years! He would follow him anywhere. But now how does he share this news with Noah???
I really love best friends-to-lovers books. Especially when one is as totally clueless as Noah was. And I get where he would have difficulty wrapping his brain around the fact that Christian was not only gay and had been hiding in his family’s Christian conservative closet all these years. But had been secretly and totally in love with Noah for 13 years. How hard it had to have been for Christian to not only hide his love of Noah while Noah continuously chose the wrong men. And on top of that, his selflessness to marry his parent’s business partners daughter for them to regain their half of the company. Parents that never deserved Christian’s loyalty and dedication. They were so self-serving and unappreciative. Let’s face it. Both men were better off on their own together away from that toxic behavior they had lived with all their lives. And Foggy Basin and its residents were much more family to them than their blood relatives!
I loved so many of the side characters and hope that we eventually get their stories. I loved Miss Esmeralda’s love and support for these two men. She saw what Noah stubbornly refused to see and told them so. And that double-date with Malcolm and Soren at the Blue Star Diner was hilarious! I’m hoping that Sam from the Pet Store and Soren get to know each other and we get their story some day too!
What a fun revisit to Foggy Basin and I’m excited to hear more of the townspeople’s stories.
