This universe that Lark Taylor is creating has become one of my favorites.
Chester is a man who lost who he was to the abuse from a man who didn’t deserve him. He’s finally finding himself and he’s determined to never put himself in a position to be vulnerable ever again. Even if it does leave him lonely.
Finlay feels like he’s lost who he was as well, but for different reasons. But when he first sees Chester, he thinks that things might be about to change.
This is an amazing shifter story. I love the brotherhood between Finlay and his pack. They are a snarky, sassy and sometimes violent bunch but they also know when to treat someone with kindness and I love that too.
Chester is a character who stole my heart right away. Crippling anxiety is something I can relate too and there was something cathartic about watching Chester find he way free of his past.
There are some very heartbreaking moments to this story but they are balanced out by the joy that Chester and Finlay bring to each other
I also really enjoyed the visit the men made to some old friends. I love seeing how the happly-ever-after is going for my old favorites.
You don’t have to have read all the stories that came before to enjoy this one, but it definately deepens the connect between the reader and the writer if you have.
The sex is very sexy and steamy but also has a kind of sweetness that makes it all just a little better.
There’s some really great relationship building going on in this story, and while the shifter element makes it a little different, it doesn’t take away from the honesty that’s needed to make things work.
Now, I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen in book 2, because I think it’s going to be a wild time!
